They also barely touch the rifle which rides on bags. I don't want a high scope and a floating head position to center up on a hunting rifle.

I mount mine as low as possible on all my hunting rigs, I have found it gives myself better consistency off hand shooting when I have my scope mounted low. Lenny

I used to mount scopes as low as possible but finally figured out I do better with one size taller rings when using a standard dimension stock. Simply, the rifle comes up more like a good shotgun and I'm not adjusting my body to fit the rifle. It all depends on stock dimensions and body type so YMMV.

My rule of thumb is- Around a 1/8 inch, more than .05, less than .35.
