I was looking to buy gun boots for our grizzlies. Kolpin makes a couple different ones and than I saw Plano also makes one. Was wondering what everybody was using on theirs with pro's and con's.

Thanks Doug

I use to have on of those Kolpin gun boots and hated that thing. It was always floppy and I constantly worried about flipping my wheeler and snapping my rifle stock in half. I got rid of it and my wife bought me a cargo box from Cabelas that's big enough to fit my rifle inside of a soft case. Only takes a few seconds for me to get to it if I need it.

That was/is one of my concerns about the way they are mounted and the brackets seemed kind of cheap looking.I'll have to check cargo boxes. Do you remember which box she got you?

It appears they no longer make that box. I put my rifle in the box going from corner to corner so my suggestion would be to measure your rifle while it's inside a soft case, take that measurement and go to some atv dealerships and see if if they might have something that will fit.

Actually, I can fit both my rifle and my wifes at the same time inside my cargo box. If you'd like, I can measure my box and post the dimensions, might be easier that way.

Not in any kind of hurry.Whenever you get a chance to measure that would be nice. I deal mainly with Performance Yamaha here in Wasilla. Just looking for other suggestions to the gun boot. I had used the 'Y' style that goes on the handle bars, but my Wby or Winnies would not like the branches hitting the stock even though they are synthetic or laminate.

Thanks Doug

I hate having my guns exposed to all that mud and dirt. I'll post up those measurements first chance I get.

Sounds like a soft or leather case, zipped or unzipped as you prefer, and strapped to the rack with bungies would do the trick. It works for me .... as do the yokes, etc. I never cared for the Kolpin boot though.

Sorry it took so long for me to get those measurements, been busy riding the last few days. The box on my wheeler measures out at 45" long and is about 8-9" deep. Corner to corner is is almost 48". Hope this helps.
