I was upset when I was paying $400 for these guns. That said I think button mag was an extra. Does it have crescent plate.? I think that is very good price for a first year gun in that condition.

I think the barrel has been trimmed 2", most early 1894 rifles were standard 26" 24" were very rare and special order only!!! get a letter from Cody ,or if you can take the front sight out and check the dovetail, milled or filed, also it should be blued if it was factory. Don

Don,
The barrel probably is 26" then, I didn't want to drag out a tape. I thought the price might change if I did!! I looked at the rifle and it hasn't been altered in any way. Dove tails are factory and the tube has never been shortened.Rear sight is original, not buckhorn, and it does have a crescent buttplate. I've had almost every model in the short tubes at one time or another, but never a 94. Am gettin' a hankerin'!!Price seems cheap to me))

Any 'button magazine' '94's or '92's out there looking for a new home? If so send PM so I can at least dream.
Oh yeah, shotgun butt, so I guess that means 53(?) or 55(?).

Got it for $1000 walk out the door. Well, so to speak. It won't come home for 60 days!!! The rifling is perfect, so I think I'll be quite happy with this one. Thinking about getting a letter on this one. At 117 years old, I'm hoping to find out something about it.Glad the Easter Bunny brought it to me)))

Here's a photo of the '94 Sporting rifle. The front sight had been changed to a sourdough, which made the rifle shoot high. I changed the rear sight to a Marbles to get it on target. Didn't sand the stock, but put a light coat of oil on it to fill the pores, as I plan on hunting with it. Don't want it soaking up water and oil! All in all, I am very happy with this rifle and can't wait for deer season.

Looks like it has a lot of blue on it. Maybe you don't need to wait for deer season - sounds like everyday is snake season down there wink

Has only about 80% on a re-blue, but on my Social Security budget, that's about all I can afford!!! Suits me just fine. Do you think it would really decrease the value that much if I drilled and tapped it for my old eyes???? BTW you said in one of your posts that you lived in Houston for quite a while. There was an old man who used to make the gun shows, always had on turquoise jewelry on him. He owned a cafe in Rock Island on Hwy 90. I used to buy short tubes from him......$135 was about the going price!!! He had one of the greatest collections I have ever seen. Did you ever run into him?? Do you remember his name? Too many years have gone by and I can't.

John - I haven't lived in Houston for 30 years. Chances are he was around then and I saw him at gun shows. Actually, a lot of gunshow guys have wear turquoise jewelry! Do you want to drill and tap it for a scope?

I'm not really gonna tap it, probably a tang sight. Just joshin' ya!! Never lived in Houston proper, but moved away from the coast about 25 years ago, myself. I always tell people the most beautiful thing about the coast are the approaches to the overpasses as you are leaving it!!! Is your moniker in reference to your love for straight pull bolts, or your livelihood? Wonderin?

YOU are a prankster. Glad you're not going to tap it. Some people would eek I've got more lever guns than bolt guns but I have a lot of bolt guns... hence the moniker.

I about had a heart attack when I saw your question about D&T... thank goodness you're kidding! Beautiful rifle by the way. I'd have jumped on it too. 94's are my weakness... well, one of them anyway.
