This for anyone who shoots NRA Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette in pistol cartridge or rimfire. First, what kind of sights are preferred? receiver or tang peep sight? Second, what pistol cartridge is preferred? I'm wanting to get into this type of shooting. I also need an excuse to buy another rifle.

cowchip, I see more receiver sights than anything alse on the matches I have attended. The current records have all been made with rifles wearing receiver sights.
Many shooters are using the .357 and .44 magnums mostly with reduced loads. The 2005 PA State Cowboy Silhouette Championship was won by a shooter using a .357 Marlin.
Some shooters that use the .44 Magnum also use the same rifle for the "Rifle" class (Rams @ 200 meters).
The .25-20 is probably the ideal cartridge (light recoil, very accurate and enough punch to topple the 100 meter ram).
Good luck, w30wcf
