Tried going up to Voyaguers today. Could not get north of Cloquet. Spent a couple of hrs trying all the different ways but no luck. Drove through water on 35 just before they closed the road. Then after giving up and heading home had to do work around the 35 closing. Used county roads from Black Bear Casino, we were directed off the freway, to Moose Lake and back on the freway. Left home at 8 am got back home at 3 pm. Wife is not happy as she was really set on camping in Voyaguers NP this weekend. Might try in the morning if the roads are OK.

To those dealing with this mess, Hope it all goes well and gets better soon.

I talked to my dad again tonight. He didn't have a lot of new news. The neighbor he talked to said water looked like it was 18" high or so in the smaller garages, which surprised my dad because that's where it was approximately when they left around lunch time.

The river isn't expected to crest until Saturday, so it could and probably will get worse.

The whole city is a disaster.

He says thanks to all who sent prayers and well wishes his way. That stuff means a lot to him and my step mom.

Saw a some of the flooding on national news this morning. They mentioned that several homes have been lost. The main focus seemed to be on the zoo and not the people that may have lost everything.

Remember not to stand in the water when the power is on. I know it sounds simple but people get killed everytime there is a flood because of it.

I noticed that too Bill.

The older I get, the more I see a pattern. An association between liberals, aggressive anger and bunny hugging. Usually a condemning anger that seems to challenge the audacity of human existence while pandering to the creatures a few rungs down the food chain ladder.

No matter what, you can guarantee they will be raging mad about what some humans failed to do when a squirrel drowns in a freakish, natural disaster.

I know. That pissed me off too. It was difficult to actually find news about something that mattered when I looked on like.

They were complaining about the damn Ravens in the display that died...Seriously. Frickin Raven. Throw a McDonalds wrapper on the ground and you can catch 5 more in minutes. It ain't hard. Ravens!!! We're takin 'bout Ravens.

Not the 15,000 people that don't have flood insurance because they live on a city built on a hill that shouldn't flood. Ravens.

Just heard a story on the Duluth floods down here. Not a single word spent on zoo animals or animals of any kind. Just went on about property damage and the hardship that people were facing today.

Crazy? Not sure how you mean, but all they talked about was damage to housing and something about lots of sink holes full of cars. It was national news, not local crap.

I saw a brief video clip somewhere last night, must have been on the 'puter somewhere. No mention of zoo animals or any other animals other than humans there too.

You must be picking up just a local thing.

Hope your dad's place is okay. I did the multiple feet of water in the basement thing in my first house back in the Iowa floods of 93. Had to leave for a month of field work that way, but when I came home all was okay. I have no idea how or why. But the water heater and furnace both checked out fine and worked fine for years until I sold the house. Maybe your dad will get that lucky. We can hope anyway.

I have never been to Duluth but have seen plenty of pictures etc.

How that city flooded like it did is beyond me confused

Please share Brent. What I saw was on national news too, but focused on the Seal that ended up on a down town street and talk about the polar bear that broke free and had to be tranquilized. Only saw a few shots of the raging water.

I would hate to be one of the residents that live at the bottom of the hill. Must have looked like aa tidal wave coming at them.

It was just NPR - National Public Radio. Of course, that's a hyper-liberal news program, but there ya go. After the news, they had some other talk program on that was ripping Obama/Holder a few new ones while I washed my brass. Only heard about the seal and the bear here on the 'fire - where it seemed to attract a lot of attention in the thread Tom started.

It's crazy because I live 100 miles from it and find mostly stories about how horrible it is the zoo animals drown. When I found a title without the mention of zoo animals, the lead and 65% of the story was about the dang zoo. I like animals as much as the next guy, and I wonder as much as you do how what a tranquilzed polar bear tastes like with steak sauce, but I've heard enough about the zoo.

You live 400 miles away and get actual news coverage.

How about a link?

My mom lives in a completely different part of the city, but on the hill in the middle of a block at the bottom of the hill. She said the house is fine but you can't go anywhere because there aren't any roads left in front of the house. The stretch of road that is left looks like an earth quake because it's "rippled."

No doubt the seal and the bear are attention worthy. I just don't think they deserved the attention they got.

I'll be surprised if 0.5% of those folks have flood insurance and no doubt more than a few of the houses will be complete losses.

Brent, I have to give NPR credit for reporting on the human side of the flood damage.
