I don't see them listed on the home page have they quit making
them again I hope I would not mind a SC made 7mm08 or .308 or
.270 WSM. I already have Sako Grey Wolf in .308 that shoots
lights out .5 or better at a 100yds. But I have always had a
want for the new SC made models. I also have a Sako SS in.270
WSM both the Sako's are Model 75's which I prefer any way the
Synthetic Stainless shoots just as well as the Grey Wolf. I
will never part with the .270 WSM as it was a XMAS gift from
the wife.

Yep, out of luck. Gander Mtn a few months back had a 70 Fwt SS on clearance at actually a good price...if I had only known.

I can't imagine why they discontinued them, one in their "new" 257 Roberts chambering would make me very happy.

I don't understand that marketing decesion. Nor do I understand not making anything with the .223 size bolt. Especially if they'd make the whole action scaled down.

The SS Featherweights were Shot show specials. The Stainless Featherweights (the FN version) were never listed as a regular cataloged item. I snapped up an '06 that is a looker and a shooter. As bear stalker said, you can usually find a few on GB. I know they were made in 243, 308, 270 and 30-06. I'm not sure if the FN version was made in any other calibers. If I wanted one, I would act fast because Winchester may or may not make them again.

Maybe the walnut-stocked SS Fwt's were a SHOT special, but the synthetic-stocked ones were listed on their website until the end of last year.

Winchester's marketing decisions are ranking right up there with Remington's. Ruger seems to be making the better decisions among the US manufacturers these days.

Why would Winchester discontinue the SS Featherweight, only to bring out this monstrosity?

Gasman, I wasn't thinking about the synthetic stocked ones. You are probably correct about that. I really like the lines of that stock, except for the Monte Carlo. Nice open wrist and it looks like an integral rear sight boss on the barrel.

Oh, I don't know. Make a run of SS Fwts. about every third year or so, keeps the demand up, and you're not sitting on a ton of unsold inventory. Not a big deal to make a new run... it's not like the CAM program needs to be rewritten again.

I do wish they would have put a laminate copy of the Sporter stock on that rifle, though. And a 23" tube, rather than 25". But what the heck, it'd probably go in a McMillan and chopping the barrel isn't that expensive, though remounting the irons might not be cheap...

The Alaskan series struck me as odd too, with the 25" barrels. But I think it was a nod to the pre-64 Alaskan, which in fact did come with a 25" barrel IIRC, in 338 Win Mag?

KDK is spot on with the limited runs and SHOT Show specials. Make some interesting stuff that not everyone wants, but those that do will likely pay the premium if they REALLY want it. One of the 257 Bob's would have been cool but they were made on the standard action, and not the short, so you might as well get one in 25-06.

I picked up a very nice M-70 S/S Walnut Featherweight in 243W right here on the 'fire last spring.

It's a dandy little rifle and loves the 85 gn TSX's with RL-17.

I picked up one in 270 last week at Bass Pro Shops on their clearance sale. Fairly nice figured walnut and that bolt fells like it glides on ice. I'm trying to decide how to scope it now.

I'd stick a 2.5-8/3.5-10 Leupold in a set of Talley LW's and stoke it w/ 130 NP's and smoke some Bama white-tail this fall.

That's the way I'm leaning today. I've been thinking maybe a 1.5x6 or 6x36/42 also. 95% of the time my varibles stay on 5x or 6x. The rifle is light and handy and I'm thinking it needs light and handy glass. Maybe even 1.5x5x20. I'm also leaning heavily toward a heavy duplex.

Talley's and a Leupold 6x36 or 42 wouldn't be a bad choice either. Post a picture when you get it scoped and let us know how it shoots.

A new 2-7 with CDS is nice too..
