Might be just me, but I'd go gently used Victory before going Conquest HD. If you find the right buy on the Victory, the $$$ will be a wash.

That is for dressage and pony racing crowd. You know the folks that drive or are driven in $150,000+ cars.

The Victory FL is a better bino than the Conquest HD. I would buy a used FL before a new conquest hd.

I heard the brightness of this new Victory will blind your eyes.

Find the topic here on switch power binoculars.
That's what I prefer these days.

Hi Dan,
The new Victory HT lenses are made of a special quality glass, called "High Transmission". This glass was first developped for high quality image projector. Zeiss is, at the moment, the only user of this glass. Sure will change soon.
Schott HT glass used in conjunction with expensive and hard to make Abbe-Knig prism (do somme googleing, please to long to explain and detail here)and FL, T* and Lotutec surface treatment give that binos a very high level of light transmission on a wide band of the spectrometer, that our eyes can exploit.
Contrary to other high quality binos these new Zeiss are designed for hunters first and don't compromise with the special needs of bird and insect watchers. Image and color are very neutral, bright, definition is fantastic edge to edge.
These binos are first designed for hunters who hunt in the first and last minutes of daylight, even at night. Other more specialised models will follow.
Zeiss announces 95% light transmission. Difficult to control at my level but testing of the first models seems to confirm this saying.
Zeiss worked also on ergonomics, the Victory HT are easy to use, i like the big focus wheel which allows easy precise and very fast focusing even with heavy gloves.
For sure they are expensive, as is the technology used to build them.
I'm no Zeiss employee or paid by Zeiss but these binos are really impressive when the light goes down. Some well known american writers, with good reputation, who had chance to see them in december 2011 were really impressed, as most of the other professional there.
If you're hunting only in bright daylight for sure other good quality binos are enough. If you don't want to buy highly specialised night hunting binos and look for the maximum polyvalence and versatility these HT can be a good solution.

Well... I got to look through a pair at the local Army Navy. The glass in them is fantastic. I'd put it in the 2K league. My only bitch, is that with my narrow inter-pupilary distance, when I try to look towards the edge of the glass, one tube or the other goes black. So now I'm back to shopping

I'm curious if folks with a more normal IPD have the same issue.
I could make them work, but I let my eyes wander quite a bit inside a pair of bino's. I'm one of those weird bastids that spends hours glassing.
