Dang R28, ya really owe it to yourself to give it a shot, I had a little custom built on a '09 DWM Mauser action, if there ever was a polite very well mannered cartridge to shoot, this is the undisputed "World Champion", I have not hit a game animal with it yet, but I have heard and read the 6.5 cal. bullets are legendary with there ability to penetrate, sustain there velocities, and buck the wind.

The 140 gn Partitions in my rifle at a sedate 2750 have to be stellar killers, and I hope to find out this fall. smile

I once hunted with a 6.5 JDJ in a Contender and it was great. Along the way I graduated to the 280 Remington & it took hold of me just like the 6.5 x 55 does a lot of folks.

I've witnessed their capabilities first hand and it IS impressive.

I HAVE hunted with the 6.5 Swede and shot them lots. Hornady's 140gr SST is murder on whitetails.
The best way I can think to describe them is to say it has better downrange ballistics than a 308, and the recoil of a 243, while shooting a 140 grain bullet. The only cartridge I like more is the 7x57 mauser.

R28, what's your bullet of choice btw?

TS - you like the Rigby MORE than a 6.5? The Swede is sweeter! Lol.

What bullet do you sling in your 7?

Damn rightis I love my 275 Rigby! I have an early 80's Win M70 Featherweight in 7x57 that loves 168gr Berger VLDs. It also likes to use these to anchor deer, which it does VERY well (when the nut behind the trigger does his job).
FWIW I called a grisled old FFL about these Rugers from Williams and he took a look. He's calling Monday morning to order one (cross your fingers that they still have one) and selling it to me for 10% over wholesale cost!!! Woo Hoo!!!
I might have to wait a few weeks until he gets a large enough order for free freight, but I am willing to wait for that deal.

I like the Swede as well as anyone, but the 7x57 does NOT lack in the "sweet" department! Oh, it let's you know about it when firing "Ruger only" loads with 175gr bullets, but even then it is no worse than the vaunted 308 Win with 165s, and I MUCH prefer the 7x57 to the 308 hands down, every day, no excuses. Those 7mm/175gr Hornady spire point interlocks hit like the proverbial "freight train" and leave game on the ground quivering.

I have to say if I were told that I could only shoot one rifle for the rest of my life, it would have to be the 7x57. That said, the 6.5 Swede would be a VERY close second...photo finish second. I have rifles in 308, 30-06, 243, etc. and still find myself prefering the 100+ year old 7mm or 6.5mm. Frankly I wonder why they keep making new calibers when the old ones do so damn well.

'New' sells, but nothing wrong w/the 19th century rounds wink

120 at 2450 is about where I shot a 14" 7mm TCU. Light recoil.

Yes DD, long.
