My 700 VS (pre Sendero) is the most accurate rifle I've ever owned.

Over the years I've owned a pile of 700's. Offhand can remember several impressed-checkering BDL's and ADL's, mostly in standard cartridges like .243, .270 and .30-06; a couple of early Mountain rifles in 7x57 and 7-08 with walnut stocks and florrplates; a Model 78 .270; several Classics from .221 Fireball to .35 Whelen, several with injection molded stocks including a .17 Fireball, a VTR in .204 and a 7mm SAUM stainless BDL; and a laminated-stock heavy-barreled varmint rifle in .223 Remington. There are probably others I've forgotten, but it has been quite a few.

Almost all of them have shot very well, and a couple have been among the most accurate rifles I've owned. My second 700 was a walnut-stock ADL purchased in 1974, a .270 Winchester that would put three 150-grain Hornady Spire Points into an inch--at 300 yards. The other is the laminated-stock .223 varmint rifle. In it's younger days it was a genuine quarter-inch rifle, and that's for five shots at 100 yards, not three. It's had a few thousand rounds down the barrel since then, but still will group five of about any factory load in 1/2" or less at 100. I bought it new about 10 years ago.

Several were made in the past decade, including the stainless 7mm SAUM, a synthetic-stocked .17 Fireball and the VTR .204. The SAUM will put three 139 Hornady Spire points in 1/2", the .17 Fireball (a sporter weight) goes around .6" for five shots, and the VTR will put TEN 32-grain Ballistic Tips into .7". The only one of those three I've rebedded from the factory is the 7mm SAUM. Floated the barrel and epoxy-bedded the recoil lug.

The WORST accuracy I can remember from any 700 was around 1-1/2" at 100 yards, and that was from the 7x57 Mountain Rifle. My lone Ti, a 7-08, shot under an inch, not spectacular but plenty adequate.

Maybe I've just been lucky, but no era seems to stand out.

Probably the original TI 700. I can't say the same for the rest of their lineup, past, present or future. I like their CDLs a lot, but they don't even come close to competing with Kimber or Winnie in the wood department.

They're all good. I like The Boone & Crockett in .30-06.

Everyone knows the best Rem. 700 is one that Swampman has owned.... they all shoot 1/4" with factory core-lokts.

Ive had a bunch of them and with the exception of free floating one they all shot good as built. My favorite to carry is a BDL MR.

Model 700 Classic for me!

I have two of them. One in 220 Swift(1992) and one in 25-06(1990). Both are of high quality and are unbelievably accurate. The 220 Swift is the most accurate gun I own or have ever owned.

A wood stocked Rem 40X in 300 Winchester Magnum, that's the one for me, that SOB was a helluva long barreled factory shooter.

Any of the 700C's from the late 60's early 70's are extremely nice, in all respects. Have yet to see one that did not have exceptional finish on both wood and metal, and, produce better than decent groups.

M7SS was nice except the one I had wouldn't feed. It went bye bye.

If you did have skin in it, I'd tell you it's overpriced.

My vote is for the KS - preferring the later version to V1.

The best Rem M700's are the ones that are FREE.

my favorite remington model 700's were the ones made from 1962-1968, they had the aluminum buttplate, split sear, shorter bolt shroud, non-jeweled bolt body, higher squared off safety, etc. (though some de-cry the split sear, saying crud got in between, creating problems).

the 1969-1973 model was very nice as well--no split sear any more, still impressed checkering in a "fancy ribbon style"...

the 1974-1978 model had some great improvements to it--nice electric checkering with positive diamonds, a much fuller forearm and re-designed stock, a much better follower, anti-bind bolt feature, bolt handle moved forward to give more room to the index finger when firing heavier recoiling guns, and, a much better rear sight.

from about 1978/1979 onward for a time, it was all the same--except the checkering changed to skip-line (probably because it takes less time?) somewhere in the mid 90's i think they started that rediculous "engraving" on the receivers--a cheap looking move that didn't last too long...

despite all of this, i still like the early ones the best...they were very well made and extremely accurate--but then again, many persuasions of the rem 700's are quite accurate no matter when they were made.

For myself and the experiences I have had any one that will shoot even close to 2 MOA without rebuilding the entire rifle. Guess that is why I do not own any right now, and have no thoughts of buying any no matter what the price, I MIGHT buy one one if I KNEW some other fool would pay more than that.............. Yes I do like the model 700 and it's varients. I will stay with what has worked for me, and Remington is not it.
