Absolutely. Great point. We have access to a place where we can shoot out to about 250 yards.

In theory the 180 Ballistic Tip drops into the same load-- it does for my '06 anyway. But since you are using some strange thing called "factory ammo" my point is more that the 180 NAB will flatten any deer alive.

Heavy-for-caliber Accubonds have a nice combination of attributes. My two main elk rifles will be running the 7mm/160 and .338/225 Accubonds... if I were taking my '06 it'd be the 180.

The Win 180 Accubond .30-06 load shoots into about an inch and a quarter in my rifle and is a candidate. There are loads that shoot better, but many that shoot worse.

That is the one I would go with.

Nope. But we have had very good experience with TTSX and MRX.

When is dime season anyway?

If I had a nickel for every dime that hasn't gotten shot around here I'd be as rich as shrapnel.....well maybe whistle....that might be pushing it..

My old .30-06 shoots great groups (bullet holes touch) at 100 yards with Sierra Gamekings 180 grain and 54.0 grains of H414. I use the CCI benchrest primers.Everything I have shot with this load hasn't done much other than fall dead. Both deer and elk haven't taken another step.I sight in 3" high at 100 yards and am good out to about 250. I have to shoot about 6" high at 300. Mind you...this is an OLD gun and nothing to look at but it still is shooting pretty well and putting meat on the table.Good luck and may the elk gods smile upon you.

I like that kind of reasoning.....Just makes too much sense and sounds too simple. Fill us in on what that "old rifle" is. We are rifle loonies here and reserve the right to know all about that old thing. Fill us in please grin...By the way, can you tell I like old rifles? grin
