Ran across a pre 64 Model 70 in .257 Roberts. Appears stock has been refinished...no checkering. Has rear slot on front end of receiver for sight, and raised sit at end of barrel. Has some imperfections on metal...one area has a half dime size dis configuration like a marring. Price is under $500. Not being a pre-64 person as far as knowledge, is it worth picking up, restocking, whatever at that price? I like the caliber.

Serial number is 4024xx, which from what I can gather is 1957. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Those usually go for ~$2000 in decent shape.

I think some people are paying $500+ for just the action.

Check the date code on the bottom of the barrel, too.

Like BSA said, 1957 is the Year of Manufacture. It is certainly not a collector, but if the action and barrel (bore) are in good condition, it is worth $500.00 to $600.00.

My bad, just had the shop pull it and hold it for me to take another look. Unfortunately I looked at a bunch of different guns and got my figures mixed up. The model 70 is $850, not right at $500 like I thought.

So with that being said......what should I look at to evaluate if it's worth that?

I love .257 Roberts, as I have three (Rem. 722 and two 700 Classics), but not a Model 70. Like I said the stock has been refinished to a smooth surface, no checkering. If action and bore are solid, would it be worth putting a nice custom or say a Winchester super grade stock on it?

Thanks again everyone...great help here. Sorry for the goof up on my end.
