As a boy who grew up in the muscle car era of the sixties and seventies, I was saddened and disgusted to see the platform currently carrying the Charger name.
But the car shown at this link causes the pulse to quicken, as does the 05 Stang. I think Daimler-Chrysler is onto something here.
Now we can only hope to see GM reverse their cranial-rectal insertion and get the Camaro-Firebird back on the streets. No wonder they are in the red, leaving that market to the Mustang alone.

ya, I really don't like the charger name on the current charger neither should have called it something else
on a side note, this isn't a hard fact folks,
but rumor has it they are working on a 440 cubic inch hemi, it maybe called the 440 six pack, it maybe put in the new viper to replace the current V-10, horsepower would be about 575
another rumor is they also MIGHT make (long shot) a cuda version of the challenger, called chrysler cuda or hemi cuda. it will be a limited edition, even less to be made than the challenger

I'll still take a '69 Charger, or like vintage Challenger or 'Cuda over the new breed. If I want a muscle car, all I want is pure, unadulterated muscle... horsepower, torque, and steel. That's it.
Then again, a Shelby Cobra kit worked up on a new-breed FI 7.4L V-8, chipped, with a tuned exhaust, 6-speed manual, and charged up wouldn't upset me at all...

Looks like they're doing a better job with the Challenger than they did with the Charger. When the first pictures of the new Chargers popped up on the internet I sent some to my dad who owned a '69 Charger with a 440 back in his younger days. His response: "Looks like a fu*&^@ BMW. The General Lee wouldn't be impressed."

The concept car Charger looked fantastic - you couldn't tell it was a 4door. But the one that made it to production should have been called a Fury, or a 300, or anything but Charger.
This Challenger concept car also looks fantastic. It has all the right visual cues. I just hope it doesn''t morph into a Gremlin by the time it's in the showrooms.

Good to see the Moparheads and motorheads around the campfire. I too, grew up watching Roadrunners and Super Bees, Chargers and Challengers. My thoughts: 1. I agree with all who say the current vehicle named "Charger" shouldn't be. Chargers were 2-door vehicles, period. This Magnum-with-a-trunk is a decent car, but it's no Charger. 2. I have a 5.7 Hemi in a 2004 Ram truck. It is a fine engine in search of an equally fine transmission. Am I the only soul who sees the 6-speed Viper tranny as the correct stir-stick for the new-gen Hemis? Why doesn't Chrysler offer a manual trans option on the 1500 series trucks? With a 6-speed trans you could have 4.11 gears and still cruise at low RPMs. Add MDS, and you could get decent cruise economy from a performance engine. 3. Why not offer the 5.7 in a Dakota? F-U-N!!! 4. If the new Challenger is to make it, it has to have serious V-8 torque, a 6-speed manual, and great handling. 5. Why do all Ram trucks sit at nosebleed height? Can't the factory offer a decent ride height option for folks who don't spend time offroad? My 5 feet 5 inches wife doesn't like the pole-vault entry, even with step bars. Yes, you can add a lowering kit, for $500-600 plus install. Why not offer a factory option drop of 2" nose, 4" tail? The competition offers trucks at a sedan ride height.
The suits at Chrysler are impossible to understand. I want my company back in American hands.

I was raised on a steady diet of Mopars and this one definitely has the excitement like the original muscle cars. Much more so than the 4 door Charger. An SRT-8 with a 6 speed would be so damn much fun! I don't think they've incorporated MDS into the SRT series yet, but they need to get the show on the road. Hope they build it.

for a truly retro ride it has to come with a quadraphonic 8-track player <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

My wife had the first 300 in our city, the charger is basically the same car with different sheet metal. Lesley sure likes her's.
