I had a Ruger once, I called it a P. O. S... Very apt name.... That's funny coming from the retard with Sturm Ruger logo for their avatar... I like their single action revolvers. I like their rifles too when you can find one that will hit a wash tub at 50 yards. I'm just sayin'

You've never found someone willing to procreate with you so I'll take your comment for what it's worth.
Nothing. I've got six kids you stupid [bleep]. Ask any of them what they were raised on and they'll all tell you venison. $hit there goes the gene pool....

None of my guns has a name.
But my newly-minted son in law is starting to build his rifle battery. His first rifle is called Mrs. Weatherby and his second was christened Mr. Ruger.
I was hoarding when hoarding wasn't cool.

Naming inantimate objects is and has been common, from ships to guns. Many famous people named their guns. Buffalo Bill named his trapdoor "Locricia Borsa", Davy Crockett of course was "Betsy", Danial Boones was "Ticklicker", Hugh Glasses Hawkins was "Bullthrower", another montain man that had a 62 caliber muzzleloader that shot a one ounce ball name his rifle "Knock em Stiff" just to name a few. I lived with guns daily as a guide and I named my old Winchester "The Winch", my pre war Colt Woodsman "Cridder Getter". I have a real truck with snowplow, winch, heavy suspention, power lift, aggressive tires. I USE this truck and it has the scars to prove it. I left it to my kids to name her. I assumed they would name it appropriate to its statis as a hard working battle truck. They named it "Buttercup", go figure. Joe Meeks rifle was named "Sally". A hunting partner named my 50 cal Great Plains rifle "Mjollnir" (Thor's hammer). A friends 50 cal percussion bench rifle is named "Old Witch" and another friend has a trade gun called "Big Smoke".

Not yet. But since nobody has a .223 barrel theyll sell me to make a contender carbine up for my 10-year-old nephew's deer hunt here this fall I may soon. About to cut the LOP way back on a tack-driver M70 Ranger .243 I picked up for a song last winter. Already popped the 2.5x Leupy HD on it w some junk rings. Gonna upgrade w Talley LW extra lows. Already told my brother I'm calling it "Project Six-Killer". So I may carve that into the stock wif a military stencil typeface. Nate will think that's very cool. And it's a double reference: bore size and Uncle Dan's beer hobby!

I like their rifles too when you can find one that will hit a wash tub at 50 yards. I'm just sayin' .............Well Swampy? You are MORE than welcome to stand 400 yards downrange from either of my two Rugers with a nice little circle on yer chest. That`s 8x your "wash tubbin" distance!! My "Mighty Mouse" (a 300 WSM Frontier; bedded and free floated btw) or "Sarah" (a 375 Ruger Alaskan; with no other work done) will handily do you in. Using my most accurate loads, would you prefer standing 400 yards downrange from a 30 cal 175 VLD @ 2910 fps using some RL17 or a 375 cal 260 Nosler AB @ 2872 fps using some H4350? Wash tub at 50 yards uh??... You are just sayin???? You`re a big laugh!

I think Weatherby, Remington, Winchester, Browning, Marlin, and Savage are all guilty of that practice.

I think anytime a person daily uses and whos life or occupation depend on an inantimate object, that person can become affectionate about it, thus naming them. Unfortunately daily gun handling and using isnt part of daily life anymore. I know it isnt for me anymore.

Unfortunately daily gun handling and using isnt part of daily life anymore. I know it isnt for me anymore. That and muzzle loading guns are often hand made, one at a time, which tends to mean no two guns are exactly alike. When your gun is unique it tends to have more personality and is likely to get named. Very few of my guns have been named. Those that have are unique in some way.
