I know you can't get the top of the line for this price but with 2 boys I have to buy 2 of everything. They will be mounted on XS7 308's used mainly for deer, coyotes, and targets. I was looking at Nikon prostaff and Weaver v9 3-9x38. I found these 2 on sale on line for under 150 but wonder how good they are. Opinions, thoughts?
Thanks,

I'd be looking at the Burris FFII and the newer Burris E1.

I'd slap a couple of 4x scopes on those rifles and call it good, especially considering your upper limit on price. I'd look for a good used Leupold 4x33; they often pop up here close to your price range.

I don't have any experience with the 3-9x, but I have both Redfield 2-7x and 4-12x scopes and like them a bunch.

Robc,
You probably haven't been here long enough to read about the value of Tasco World Class scopes. You say you want 3X on the bottom end. I would go with a 3-12X40 Tasco and get both for about what you will spend on one of the other brands.
If you compare them side by side on an eye chart you will be quite surprised. If you put them on a .340 or .375 you will be surprise at the toughness. Ask me how I know.

I dont say a whole lot about how bad things are, but either of the ones you found on sale (weaver or nikon) are head and shoulders above the Tasco

I'd buy the Weaver V9 and not look back. I have one that seen service on 223s-338 Win for the last 15 years and it just keeps going.

I'd agree....: Burris FFII with the ballistic plex of course....
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

With the deal I linked from Natchez both boys would also have a decent GPS too.

Thanks, Either of the 2 you mentioned are great great values. The new Nikon Prostaff is an upgrade over the older Prostaff. I have the new 2-7 model and it is a very nice scope.

Been using the Burris FF II 3x9x40 on my 257 wby for over 10 years. I put it on as a temporary and has'nt left the gun. It has been used and abused and tougher than nails. If it dies tomorrow, it won't owe me a thing.

I have V9 that is about 10 years old and a Pro-Staff 2-7 shotgun hunter that is about 5 years old. I prefer the Weaver but only by a little bit.

Nasgam has it boys. For the price of a VXII he could get the boys two bright scopes and a GPS for each to boot. THAT WOULD ENTAIL SOME GOOD FATHER-SON TIME TEACHING THEM HOW NOT TO GET LOST. powdr
