What part of KS you in? I'm 30 minutes south of KC and already have the dies, etc, if you want to use them. Even got some 6.5 bullets that you could try too.

Thanks for the offer Heeler, I am actually in Mission, but grew up in Louisburg, so I know Cass, Co. I will keep that in mind as I move forward with things.

No problems at all. I work in the city too. And I know a few boys that grew up in Louisburg. I actually hunt over there near the Cider Mill.

I get great accuracy with 160 woodleighs as well so if I wanted a sub 450 yard heavy, I have that as well. Mine is a 700 with an edge. Good luck.

Mine has dumped whitetails, antelope and mountain goat so far. Be perfect for sheep as well.

I have been looking at the woodleigh 160gr bullets I never liked the hornady 160gr RN. I should be able to pass 3000 fps with them. Fill me in on there performance. I have JLK 130gr VLD's on order and as soon as I get them I will order the woodleighs. I would choose the 264 wm over the 6.5-284 same performance and cheaper to shoot.

Cocadori, that stock makes me envious. Care to share some details on this rifle?

264WM, I've got them loaded up and running about 2750 if I recall in the 6.5. They are amazingly accurate and flat flying though I have yet to shoot a critter with them. The 140 vld has been deadly on everything I have shot with it, but want to try the 160 woodleigh on an elk as I know it would do great.

I too am building a 6.5-06. Just waiting on the barrel...

On a side note, Lapua makes a 156gr bullet called the Mega. Tried them in my 'Swede and they shot great. Seems like it might be a good elk whacker.

Rem 700 Long Action, Lugs lapped, trued, etc.,etc. Modified bolt handle.
Rock #5, 8 twist 26" with the smith's own designed muzzle break
6.5-06 throated for the 140 class bullets
Rem. 700 trigger blueprinted and tuned to 2 lbs.
All metal cerakoted satin black
HS Sported stock with the 4 color camo option.

The target inside the pic is 3 shots at 500 yards.

PS: KS1911, (that camo pattern would fit perfect for KS fall/winter)

Great looking accurate rifle! Lots of fun to shoot I'm sure.

But gosh, I'd hate to carry that thing around.

More my speed....260 Ackley in a 6 lb package.

I'm partial to the 6.5-284.

Just curious, what kind of velocity increase did you see over the .260?

Thanks.

I ran the 6.5X284 for a spell ;-)

I feel the 6.5-06 will lend to better barrel life. Longer case neck...yadda yadda...

They are ballistically the same.

.260 will run top ends around 2800... some a bit more.

6.5-06 will easily reach 3000+

I just put this one together. Have not shot it yet. I'm taking the scope to Leupold this morning for a CDS dial. I have plans of having the zero stop set at 400 yds, maybe 500 yds. It's a 4.5x14 BC.

I would expect 2,900 with a 140 and 3,000 with a 130.

That's not bad at all for that type of rifle.

SU-if you have the zero stop set @ 400 or so how far do you reckon it'll get you out to?

Thx

Mark, between 1000 and 1,100.

I just enjoy popping targets at that distance even with a light rifle.

123 Scenars will get the first call.
I expect 3,100 mv with them.

SU,

Man, I can't get that fast with the 130's or 140's in my 260.

Your powders choices?
