ballistic twin of 6.5x55 but better availability of brass (reforming) can use long action. And I have one.

My 6.5x55 is on an FN Mauser commercial action, custom chambered by Charlie Sisk with a Lilja barrel. Shoots pretty well with Lapua brass without reforming.

But obviously if you have a 6.5x57 it's much better!

No disrespect John about the x55.... Just thought it funny he's excited to use a looong action for a x57 case and thinks that makes it cool?

There is exactly zip difference in the powder capacity between the 6.5x55 and 6.5x55.

But often an unusual round is cooler to rifle loonies!

Depends on the brass. I couldn't resist! I knew what you meant...

krjredneck,

If it isn't cool, what's the point?

I have a thing for the 6.5 bullet. I have a .264 WM, a 6.5-08 and a 6.5X55. I'm building a 6.5X68S. The 6.5-08 is a .260. The 6.5X55 a longer Creedmore. I did some work on a friends rifle while he was deployed it was a .260Rem. I have handloaded and target shot them ALOT. I have hunted with them all. Seem to me the longer the brass the heavier bullets get pushed faster. I always wander back to the Swede. If I'm 100gr bullets I use the 6.5-08. I shoot 140gr in my WinMag, the 160 don't shoot very well. I 125gr bullets in my Swede and 100 in my 6.5-08. But they are all accurate cartridges. Just get a good barrel and match your twist for the bullet weight that you want to use. Have it installed by a good smith.
