krjredneck,

Hey, I have a drilling with 16-gauge shotgun barrels and a 6.5x57R rifle barrel. It is REALLY cool-lookin'--but also kills deer neatly. What's wrong with lookin' cool, as long as it works too?

Must confess I still dunno what your original point was, but since it apparemtly involved a certain amount of rifle loonyism, then why not?

MD they was asking 260 or 6.5 creed, someone threw in 6.5x55, so I threw in 6.5x57. you should do a write-up (in handloader) on the drilling I would love to read that.

I intend to, once the present year of assignments starts getting done.

Good luck this fall with the 6.5x57! What loads are you running in it?

Was this 6.5 Creed the favored cartridge of the Apostles or something?

MD my 6.5 has a very long throat (long enough for 6.5-06) so I use 50gr H4831 with 140gr SST got a young deer with last year but thanks for the luck. 47gr H4350 was good also.

Was toying with the idea of getting a Creed in a Ruger Target Rifle for a long range windy day praire dog rifle.

With absolutley no bias, I would have to say the 6.5x54 beats em all... smile

Of the the two listed I have grown partial to the Creedmoor. Not because there is anything wrong with the 260 which I have no experience with. The Creedmoor has been very easy to get some really good shooting out of. I like the twist that Ruger put in their rifles. It leaves a little more room for the longer/heavier bullets if so desired.

The Swede is the or close to the same head as the 06. The MS is now a bastard case. It is obselete for a reason. I played with an old Carcano. The Carcano is just a turd hiding within a turd. I never good get it to shoot.

cool because how rare it is... coool because how old the design was... and cooool because all one has to do is neck up 257 Roberts brass and there ya go!

mine is a long range shooter...one in 8 twist, 28 in PacNor barrel on a Model 70 Long action.., heavy magnum contour... heavy but I LOVE that rifle and cartridge....

No dis, but of the 6.5 cartridges the 6.5x57 is the most over rated. The extra length really gives you nothing more.

Actually, all the 6.5mm cartridges are totally worthless, which is why I own a 6.5x54 Mannlicher-Schoenauer, a 6.5x57R, a 6.5x55, a 6.5-06 and a .264 Winchester Magnum.

Zak Smith at demigodllc.com has wrote two or three really good articles about 260 vs 6.5 creedmoor. Well worth reading

I don't think there is such a thing as a bad 6.5 mm cartridge. What I don't get is the barrel life issues when you get up to 6.5/284 and beyond. Why is it so much shorter than a .270 at similar pressures?

I have always wanted a .260 AAR or 6.5x57 AI. Way up there on the cool factor and nostalgia off the charts.

silly thread. I used to be a huge Maryanne supporter but it hit me, you don't have to choose- it's an island- correct answer is "both"!

Oh what swayed me towards Ginger? A movie called God's Little Acre. Opening scene with her in it. Hard pressed to find a better looking better figured woman anywhere in history. Wish I had a full pic but here is a hint.

I agree with all, in my limited experience thus far.

I have found fired brass capacity in my Creedmoor to be very surprisingly consistent; on the order of 0.1 grains of water capacity variation in a couple different sets of 5 pieces each.

I wanted a Ruger so very badly, but they just don't make the right configuration yet. Nevertheless, my Savage seems to shoot well. The second set of 4 shots of factory 140 ammo (that was the first box of ammo I fired through the rifle) resulted in all 4 holes touching. I believe I'll be using that factory ammo of Hornady's in this month's precision rifle match.

One of the best aspects of it all is that I can actually afford the ammo, components, and tools Hornady sells for this cartridge.

I have a 260 with a 22" christensen carbon wrapped shilen on it that weighs 5.75 pounds and shoots half moa but only with 1 load.

I also have a 6.5x47 L with a 24" brux light palma on it that's pretty new to my and I'm still working on it but it matches the 260 almost exactly speed wise.

And, I just sent a bartlien 8 twist rem varmint down to stiller to have them chamber it in 6.5 creedmoor and install it on my new tac 30 aw.

My answer was to get one of each. When the creedmoor is done I'll be able to make my own comparisons.

One thing I am happy about is that ALL the 6.5 designs seem to be getting some play. I think it is due to the 6.5-284 being used so sucess fully in the 1000 yard game, plus some of the 6.5 designs can be used in AR platforms which has become huge. Finally the public has figured out to some degree that the 6.5 works......add in all the new bullets out there and they really do of,fer a lot. Just my 2 cents worth. I have an buddy that really loves his custom 6.5x47.

and NO dis in return...

in a short action, you are right...

in a long action, with a throat equaling magazine length cartridge, it might surprise you.. it surprises 6.5/06 shooters...when compared over a chronograph...

and those who think it doesn't never chronographed them side by side...
