Going to check one out tonight and the web has limited info on them. This one just says HVA Blah blah made in sweden or something to that effect. Anything I should look for in particular on these? What are they worth really?

Can't log into Photobucket (Locked) so I will delay the pictures.

The barrel in your picture looks very long for a Husqvarna. Most HVAs that I've seen had barrels in the 21" range. Ask SBHVA, as he is the resident expert on all things Husqvarna.

Every Husqvarna 1640 I have seen had a 23.5 inch barrel standard, (although there is a lightweight model that had a 21 inch barrel.) They are finely made small ring Mauser 98 actions of excellent quality. That one in the picture looks like it has a walnut stock, which is good, often they are beech. With one in good condition, there is no way you can go wrong with a Husky.

Attached is a link with some good info on husqvarnas.
Later (newer) ones were pushfeed and even later ones were not made by husqvarna. One common problem with them (husqvarnas) is stock cracking/chipping, particularily the tang area, behind the recoil lug and between the mag box and trigger area. Other than a missing chip behind the tang the others can be fixed pretty easily. Usually the stock triggers (on the small rings) are nothing to write home about, as issued.
Given all that, if I ever run into a reasonably priced model 4000 in something less than 30-06 I'll be hard pressed not to grab it. One in 6.5x55 (not sure they were ever catalogued) would make an excellent deer rifle, for me.
