My youngest son is inheriting my old hunting truck and wants to lift it . I have no experience with lift kits but I have talked him into a 3" instead of a 6" because he just bought a new set of 16" wheels and we just want to go with a new set of 315/75/16 tires , which are the tallest we can find in a 16" tire . Any one with experience out there that can tell me if we are on the right track ? The lift we are looking at is a Rough Country that comes with new shocks and appears to be a complete kit .

Thats too close with a 3" lift. Want to include a 2" body lift..... It's a 17 year old truck. JMO but if you want that thing to last him any time at all would look at 265's or 285's at the most.. Point of no return with the 285's.. Save the jack for a winch and some gas....

Thanks woofer , but i bought the truck in 1999 and have kept it up . it only has 135,00 on it and i built the tranny last year . i ran 305 /70/16 on it for several years without a lift , do you think it will have clearance problems with the 315's ? he is determined to lift it and is working to earn the money him self , should we go with more lift ?

I cant imagine not getting a good amount of scrub on the front. Would check some of the tire wharehouses and off road retail pages to find a lift guide. Seen em' enough. Basic guide by model to fit tires and all the mods needed.....

There are more but kinda' basic guideline. Looks like a 3" with a body lift may work. Also consider a slightly offset rim to get the tire out a bit. Are you running any kind of fender ext?
