i have an early 1930's 99f in 300 sav with a 24 inch barrel, i also have a 24 inch 410 barrel.the 410 barrel locks up nicely, i have not checked the head space yet. my question is the 410 barrel has a clamp with a bolt and a somewhat horseshoe shaped type washer on the other end. am i missing something that goes between the washer and tip of the forearm?
also if you slide the clamp forward there is a small depression in the barrel which the clamp screw rides in, is this standard?

thanks for any info

everything you have is correct, and its all you should expect... you could add something to pad the wood between the screw and the forearm... someone has mentioned hard leather before...

the only thing is, where the 410 clamp is now its too low on the barrel it will not clear the end of the forearm
so if i slide the clamp forward to adjust, its out of that notch in the barrel where the clamp screw rides
do i need to make a new notch (a second notch) in the barrel?

Sounds like you have an early 410 brl on a later production rifle. Savage switched to a medium weight brl, longer forearm and ramp front sight around 1927-28. That required the 410 clamp to be located farther from the receiver.

Savage...never say "never".

I would not do anything to alter a perfectly good factory shotgun barrel. Probably better to keep looking for one that fits your gun and then sell the one you have.
