Our group of four got drawn for cow elk muzzleloader season in Unit 11 and it also includes units 211, 13, and 131. I noticed there is very little public land in units 13 and 131 so I am looking at the BLM maps for units 11 and 211 more closely. I know these areas are usually better late season but according to the DOW site there are elk in small numbers all through these areas. One of the members of our group is almost 80 so he will be limited as far as mobility. It looks like there is a fair bit of public land in the Axial Basin area (GMU 211) and it doesn't look too steep. Also there is quite a bit of public land in unit 11. We are planning on bringing ATV's and use them if we can on the main trails. But we don't know what a "Restricted Travel Area" is or where to find out the info on it.

I plan on calling the biologist that covers these units to see if he can recommend some places that might be easy for our older member to hunt with a good chance at seeing some cow elk. However, I thought I would ask here if anyone can think of anywhere that might help make his hunt more enjoyable and where we might see some animals. Thanks and hunt safe

Browntailguy:

What state? Colorado?

US Forest Service maps indicate travel restrictions.

When you get to Craig Colorado, go to the information
center on the main street and ask about hunting Duffy
Mountain. They will show you where you can hunt, and
give you a map if tou don,t have one.
