My beloved husky Snakeriver passed over the rainbow bridge today. He was 16yrs old and a two time finisher on a winning Iditarod team. Hard headed but determined he would lead the team pretty much where ever you needed him to. Retired for the last two years he had enjoyed the good life, his own couch and specially made coats with his name on them.

16 is a damn good run. He was lucky to "have" you as you were him.

Somewhere, he's back in his prime and running.....

I have more use for many dogs I meet as opposed to many people I meet in today's society... Snake is an example why....

condolences on your loss... but Kudos for the wonderful 16 years your husky gave you...

you were truly blessed..

That makes for a tough day. Heart goes out to you.

It has been a tough day, thank you so much for the kind words of sympathy. Snake was dignified to the end and someday I know we'll be together again.

Rainbow Bridge
(Author unknown)
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that
has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are
meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is
plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who
were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our
dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small
thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and
looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You
have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so
long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow
Bridge together...

Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears but laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you..
I loved you so---'twas Heaven here with you."

I feel for you as often times the loss of our dogs is harder to take than losing a human friend or family member.

I lost my rottweiler about a month ago. Lost my mother the same week. Mom was 92 and ready to go join dad.

My beloved rott was only 9 and I'm having a really hard time dealing with her loss.

Darn it Terry, I knew you'd post "the bridge", just as I knew I'd never make it through it dry eyed. So sorry for your loss, Annie. 'Sounds like another great pet and friend gone but certainly not forgotten. There must be something just a little different about a sled dog.

Sorry to hear this Elf. The absolute pleasure of the association is what has to be remembered. What an empty life it would be for us and our critters if there was no pleasure and pain to go with it. Snakedriver had PLENTY of pleasure. I expect that you did also. Take comfort.
