ROMNEY NARROWS VP CHOICES; CONDI EMERGES AS FRONTRUNNER

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.

And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!

The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.

It was Condi who received two standing ovations at Romney's Utah retreat a few weeks ago, and everyone left with her name on their lips.

Rice made an extended argument for American leadership in the world.

In recent days, she emailed supporters.

"2012 is perhaps a turning point for the United States," she warned.

"The upcoming elections loom as one of the most important in my lifetime. I'm very often asked to speak about our current foreign policy and the challenges that lie before us. However, we, as a country, are not going to be able to address any of those international challenges unless we first get our domestic house in order."

two choices remain. we'll either lean toward Fortress America, or lean toward Global America. various degrees of difference or commonality between the two, of course.

do we integrate into the "world" or do we defend against the advance of the heathens? we have choices.

The news yesterday was that Marc Rubio was starting to take a shine to the idea of running.

I say she's nothing but a head fake or her name is being floated to test the response.

Well whether you like her or not she's several rungs up the ladder in gray matter over Palin and also carries more clout than most believe..the Mitt won't win on shear likability.

She's more liberal than most and a hardcore RINO.

so, how is she any different than the contender, and the incumbent for that matter?

seriously, she's top notch in my understanding, as a policy wonk. but, a politician? not so much.

we are attempting to elect a set of two politicians, right?

She's not Biden. Good enough for me.

Very pro-gun. Tells a story of her dad defending the family against the KKK with his guns. She became a lifelong believer/supporter then.

But as others have said, she's too moderate for my tastes on other issues.

Mitt needs someone more charismatic, and someone who can attack Obamadingdong.

Condi is brite, I like her, but I don't think that's what Mitt needs to win.

I guess her or Rubio is as good as they get, but I worry she won't pull the black vote obammy will or the Hispanic vote Rubio would. Maybe she would pull a few female votes that arent seduced by the great looks, carisma, or sexyness of The pos POTUS.

Policy wonks are valuable. a Cabinet position is not to be sniffed at.

Interesting. Maybe she can pick up Rush's theme today about the KKK actually having been run mainly by Democrats... and a higher percentage of Dems voting against the '64 Civil Rights Act than Republicans. Of course, that would run contrary to rewritten history.
