There's been several threads on what version of the Ruger #1 single shot you guys like the best.... But, what would it look like if you had a chance to build your own?

My version would have a clean (no iron sights) barrel 24 inches long. The shorter "H" forearm. Barrel attached swivel mount and I lose the rib in favor of a simpler/cleaner mount to attach a scope. The closest factory job to this desription that I know of is an older Lipsey offering....#1 AH..IIRC.

What would yours look like?

As issued from the factory is plenty pleasing to me. RSI is my favorite version I think. IF I could have my choice of anything, it would be an RSI in 338-06, not possible unless custom.

I thinking of either a 35 Whelen or AI version, possibly the 400 Whelen, with: 26" 1/2 octagon - 1/2 round barrel, Alexander Henry forend, keep the 1/4 rib, add QD mounts, NECG type peep sight, barrel band, skeleton grip cap, traditional or classic buttplate, engrave trigger.

Stainless action with engraving, rust blued barrel, 24 inches with slightly larger profile than the 1A, with standard Ruger band front sight, scope rib that extends over receiver ring, short fore end w/ebony tip, fancy walnut with red pad. Caliber, 6.5x55 Swede or 7x57 Mauser with custom, slightly shorter throat.

I keep thinking about a 1V, one of the models I have never
owned. Since we're wishing, I'd like the V to have a 26"
maybe longer stainless barrel chambered in 257 Weatherby smile

But I like some of the de-banded No.3's in the recent
thread here as well. Yall knock it off, gonna cause me to
buy more guns I don't need...

The word "need" is only relevant for your first #1!

From then on, it is all addiction that goes beyond simple need.

I could surely dote on that! I'd leave the iron sights off however.

Engraved and rust blued, case colored lever and block. 20" barrel with an RSI type stock (exhibition grade)with a case colored skeleton buttplate and grip cap, the ruger band front sight, a rear quarter rib with express sights (1 fixed, two folding leaves)and the capability to mount a scope, and I'd need a matched set in 7x57R and 9.3x62. Add a couple swarovski scopes in QD mounts, 1 1.5-6 for the 7x57 and a fixed 2.5 or 3x for the 9.3, and I figure I'd be all set for where and what I hunt. Plus a few species I don't yet hunt, but could afford to if I had the money to buy the rifles.

That's a simple re-bore away from being your reality.

I turned a .243 into a .358, because I loved the rifle so much, but the .243 wasn't elk worthy in my mind.

Awesome build.

If I had that kinda scratch I'd probably be toting a decked out Dakota model 10....thinkin .280 Rem.

I guess what I'm really looking for here is what people would like to see Ruger bring out in a new edition of the #1?

I'd make it more like a classic Farky

Color case hardened receiver.

Lower stock drop and sights closer to the barrel, express sights with folding leafs (option). no scope. Longer barrel, shorter forend.

steel or skeleton buttplate on the smaller calibers. Pad on the big bores only.

classic brit calibers, flanged/rimmed cases in various calibers from Rook rifle calibers thru stalking rifle to medium and big bore, with the weight of the rifle scaled appropriately, ie, the big bores would have thick wood and barrels and weigh a few pounds more than the skinnier stalking rifles and the rook/rabbit versions a pound or 2 less even than that.

255 Rook Rifle
.240 Flanged NE
.275 Flanged H&H Magnum
Super 30 Magnum Flanged H&H
400/360 NE Purdey
375 Flanged Magnum NE
450/400 NE (got that one already!)
500/450 Magnum NE
(just flipping pages thru cartridges of the world.)

If that's the case, I'd take a #1 RSI in the Krag, a 1A in a heavier 24" barrel in 6.5x55, with sights.

1-A style in 7x57. Blued, walnut.

26" barrel with band. Stocked for iron sights. White bead. Folding leaves with shallow "V"s. Leather detachable cheek piece for use with scope in quick-detachable mounts.

Hmmmm...

#1V with real wood, with 26" stainless barrel - 1 in 8 twist, and Ruger standardizes the .22-250AI

as above, but in .221 fireball

#1B with Circassian walnut, 26" stainless barrel, in 7mm RUM

#1S, with Circassian walnut, blue barrel, .348 Winchester

#1A - blue, 7x30 waters

The new model #1L, (for lightweight), action scaled for max case size of .30-06. A modern Rook rifle...

and edit to add, a #1A in .44 Mag smile

A minimized version would be very cool!
The "Low Wall" Browning and Winnie's are an example.
Light, slim, ergonomic and plenty of class...

I have pretty simple wants... a 1B in .300 H&H. Though a scaled model in .22 Hornet/.218 Bee would be pretty cool as well.

edit: Duh, .222 and .221 Fireball as well!

Been thinking on this, just crossed my mind that:

I hope I don't live to see them bring out a "tactical"
version of the No.1 crazy OR a zombiefied version,
but I wouldn't put it past them.

I'd be really happy if they'd just keep making most or all of
what they've made in the past, but doesn't seem likely.

I can see it now!
Retractable M4 style buttstock, aluminum forearm with attachment rails for lights, lazers, chainsaws and other useful tools.
And lets not forget the detachable 10 round magazine and BUIS sighting system!!

Yak!! I think I made myself sick!!

Well, I've built a couple of custom No.1s in the last few years and am working on another at the moment.

Custom No.1 #1 - 6.5x47 Lapua RSI with a 'B' weight barrel in a marbled lump of English Walnut with steel buttplate. Balances perfectly, but does weigh 9lb 4oz with a Kahles 2-7.

Custom No.1 #2 - No.1B in 30/06 rechambered to 300 H&H topped with a 3-10x50 Kahles. Awesome long range rig that throws a 165gn NBT at just under 3300fps.

Custom No.1 #3 - A true custom. No.1A profile barrel cut to 24inches. Polygonal rifled in 6.5mm chambered in 6.5/06. Canjar trigger. Stockwork will be factory butt style, the forend will be a slim wood, midway between a H and a B style piece of wood. Looking for a mountain rifle inspired No.1 firing 120gn NBTs and 140gn VLDs.

One that may be in my future is a RSI in 9.3x62mm, unless Ruger does one of these first.

#3 sounds just about right, to me.
Something in a "Mountain Rifle" version of the rifle below.
This one is full custom and over the top for Rugers consideration.. but a good basic blue print.
Again, I'd like it light weight, slender, no irons.
