This was a constructive, helpful comment how? " Constructive", "helpful"... I was not aware we were required to work within those parameters....GFY Obligatory smiley face...

I think a thumbhole stock is great for shooting off of a bench but just don't work on a BG rifle. It's not as quick. With a regular stock, you slide your thumb to the right, flip off the safety and slide your thumb back to the left and you're good to go. With the thumbhole you've got to take your thumb out of the hole, do the safety, and put it back. That takes more time which may or may not be important, and is awkward unless you practice extensively doing it. I tried one for a season and just couldn't get comfortable with it.
Aim for the exit hole.

I bought an XR100 with a TH lam stock as a walking varminter and after one season of cursing it for its arkward carry I made a standard stock from a light 1/4 sawn walnut blank and not only had a rifle that was 1 1/2 lb lighter and easier to carry but one that was easier to get onto target with as well. I've always had a hankering for a Harry Lawson Cochise Thumbhloe since I visited his shop back in the '70s. His rifles were light and as sweet as could be to a young man with no chance of coming up with the price of a custom rifle. The man could do wonders with a Rem 600 action. Which gets me to thinking, I've got 3 600s in the safe. Hmmmm. George I had Harry stock an FN barreled action in 25-06 ackley with his Cochise thumb hole using a beautiful piece of Mertle wood back in the sixtys. Sucker broke in half right at the action after a few shots. Harry repaired it with some welding rod . It held but I couldn't like the gun after that. Sold it and never wanted a thumb hole again.

I've shot a couple thumbhole stocks, don't like them, don't seem to fit my hands right.

No thanks! I've owned 2 thumbhole laminates and they both broke in the grip area...and both within the first few months of shooting.

Never liked them, butt ugly IMHO. I can't see the use either. Just not a hunting rifle with one, maybe on the bench?
JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

I own three thumbhole rifles, a Browning Eclipse in 30-06, a Remington 700 SS Laminate in 300 WSM and a TC Omega SS Laminate in .50 caliber. The fit and feel is great, no problems with safety or carrying them. To each his own!

I have 2 1 on a M700VS and another on a 308 Norma hunting rifle, everything I shoot gets just as dead as a rifle stocked typical.Try it, shoot it for awhile and make up your own mind from facts instead of others opinions.Yada yada everyone has an opinion just as well as an assh*le geez, don't need to see it though. I am right handed, left eyed. Have a right bolt, left thumbhole .270. From a stand or bench, it works great. Very comfortable. When I am still hunting, or have a long hike, I take something lighter.
