I also prefer Fed 210M primers to ignite 51g Big Game pushing a 120 TTSX 3130fps @ muzzle. I have no need for a 140 in NY. Just my .02....good luck.....you've chosen an excellent cartridge.

I recommend you try Alliant's 2000MR with 139/140 gr bullets. Hornady lists 47.0 gr as max. That produced excellent accuracy and 2940 fps in my wife's 7-08ai. It's also great with 120 gr bullets.

That's standing on it pretty good, but if I were to attempt it, I'd go with the 139gr Hornady.

I have a couple of favorite loads depending upon what powders you have available.
#1 Lapua Brass (downsized from .308), Fed 210M Gold Match Primer, 140 Gr. BT Barnes Tipped Triple Shock X-Bullet, Vihtavouri N140 Powder 41.6 grains
#2 Lapua Brass (downsized from .308), Fed 210M Gold Match Primer, 140 Gr. BT Barnes Tipped Triple Shock X-Bullet, H380 Powder 45 grains, but....

The H380 is a filthy powder to shoot. I prefer the VV N140

Varget seems to be the powder of choice in 7-08 for 120 to 140 grain pills. Have had 3. Two std and one AI. No powder came close to the velocity and accuracy of varget in any of them. Will be getting another soon and will give big game a chance to displace varget. All I run are 120nbt so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I second this. 46.8 gives me exactly 2940 with 140s in a 22" barrel with excellent accuracy. My rifle is NOT AI, just standard 7-08.

I got about 2,950 fps with 44.4 R-15 and 120 TSX's...well, at least until my 260 came along.

I just tried IMR 4350 last night. Speer 145s Fed 210 m primers accuracy was verry good , if anything a little better than with the Varget. I didn't chrony the loads, but they were near max. Slightly compressed. Might be my new hunting load.

Just for the heck of it I worked up a few loads with 140 GameKings and H-4350 I did average just over 3000fps out of my 24" barrel accuracy stayed good but primer pocket life probably wont.

Agreed.

Some of this stuff is akin to the old days when guys stuffed 7x57's with loads of Norma 205 to get 140's to 3000fps and declared it good....Despite maybe a dozen rifles chambered for 7/08 and 7x57,I've never seen a single one that came close to 3000 fps with a 140.

The 7/08 has gotta be the most "leaned on" cartridge on the Innanet!

I can safely reach 3000 fps with RE-15 behind the Speer 130 BTSP in my current 7mm-08. But never with any 139-140 gr bullets, however.

I'm probably the only dinosaur that hasn't switched to varget yet. I'm still using H4895. I don't remember the load exactly, but it's in the neighborhood of 42 grains with a 120 TTSX. I've pushed it to 3000 in my 20" barrel with outstanding accuracy. But I've dialed my load back to 2925-2950. It can get mid 80's in the early portion of bear season, but my range work is normally done in significantly cooler weather.

Imr 4064 was best with 120 gr. but with 139 Imr 4350 gave best groups and velocity

For 140 grainers, Varget has proven to work the best for me. I've used H4895 with good luck also with both 140s and 120s.

In both my 7-08s, 2800 with a 140 has proven hard to get. I go 2750 and call it good.
