Looking to put some glass on my AR. wan tit to be compact and fairly light weight. Holigraphic sites would be great but would also like to have a bit of a magnification. My budget is >$300. Mounts included.
What are some options???... I'm not afraid of preowned items either.

I have a S&B 1.5X6X42 on mine, hard to beat that combo. Rugged, excellent in low light, resolution that is near perfection
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

The optics choice would depend on what you intend to use this rifle for.

That is certainly >$300! I bet that is some sweetness to look through. I think it might retail for more than I could sell my pickup for! Good for you. The optics choice would depend on what you intend to use this rifle for. This is so true! The low powered variables (there dozens of decent options in illuminated and non-) are pretty versatile, prices on them cover the entire spectrum. ACOG's are quite versatile as well as tough and compact, and spendy. Non magnified holographic/red dot type you have a few options too very much depending on your intended use (meaning are we talking life and limb or recreational) covering the spectrum in price. I know the answer: I want one of each and an AR to go with each of 'em. Problem solved.

The staying under $300 is where the rub comes in. Below is one I use on one of my plinking AR's and really like it. It's a Burris 2-7X35 Fullfield tactical in a Burris PEPR mount. It's a pretty decent setup and I consider it a bargin for what you get. You should be able to get both for about $250 before shipping. Terry

And in your price range, The Burris one TC1 showed is actually not a bad optic. Had one on a .243 for a while and never had any issues with it.

I've used a variety of optics on an AR, and my favorite was the leupold 3.5-10. I know, outside your budget, but if you want to shoot small targets at extended range, you need to have optics with some magnification.
I'd like to say that the Bushnell elite 3200 10x target scope is a viable discount option, but I found the optics blurry and I was unable to focus the scope for a clear sight image at closer range. It was fine at 100ys and beyond, but at 50 yds I'd get a headache trying to use it.

I recently put an Aimpoint PRO on my AR. It wore an eotech for a long time. I REALLY love the PRO. The price is closer to $400 though (includes the Aimpoint mount). And if you want to add magnification it'll cost you some more. But, like a previous poster wrote, it all depends on what you plan to use it for. In my opinion, I would probably only want magnification if it is for varmints or long distance targets.
