I recently bought several winchesters in an estate sale. One of the levers is a .356. Is this a rare caliber? I'm. Not familiar with it. What is it similar to. Thanks.

Basically a 358 Winchester with a rim. Not sure if they are still making ammo for it. Would be a great woods rifle for deer/bear if you can find ammo.

444 brass can be reformed to 356 with a full length 356/358 die. you need a 444 shellholder.

Yikes. Thanks guys. Don't think I'm gonna be doing a lot of shooting with it. It may be smart to invest in the dies as I also have a .358 BLR and a 444 marlin. Thanks for the info.

If you'd like like to shoot it, check the lever action site, there was a discussion on there about the caliber, and someone mentioned he knew where there were two cases of the 356 ammo if someone was interested. Having dies for it, IMO, would help make it just that much more saleable down the road if you decided to part with it. There was also someone on there that said they were actively looking for a 356 as well.
