I'm gonna ask this question here to you guys because I figure that the 6.8 SPC is most commonly used in this realm of shooters on the 'fire. I am trying to get a feel for bullet performance (on Hogs and Deer) out of the .277 bore when run at 6.8 SPC velocities. 1) I know that the 110gr NAB seems to be receiving a lot of praise as a hunting bullet, I'd like to hear more about your experiences with it. What do you say.? 2) How are the mono-metals such as the E-Tip, TSX, TTSX working.. are they consistently giving expansion.? I don't have Hogs here, I know that they are a bit heavier in body construction then our Whitetails, so performance on "softer" targets such as Deer and maybe coyotes is especially of interest to me,though Hog kills are great test medium.

My rifle is new to me but I plan to hunt with the 120gr SST. I have heard that Prohunters and Accubonds are very good for deer.

I'm using the 100gr Accubond and 95gr TTSX. The Accubond is a bit more accurate, but my best loads are 200 fps slower than the TTSX.
I suspect any bullet made specifically for the 6.8 should be adequate for deer. I'd want one of the tougher ones if I ever hunted hogs.

You should PM bea175 with your question if he doesn't respond to this thread. He's hunted extensively with the 6.8.

Can you hunt deer with a semi now in PA?
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

Can you hunt deer with a semi now in PA? Thinking of a lightweight T/C Contender Carbine and with all the mid-weight cartridges you AR guys are running, I chose to ask the Question over here.

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Nice kills. Do you have to have a low cap mag for hunting in Tenn? I've got a Leupold on mine too.

Nice kills. Do you have to have a low cap mag for hunting in Tenn? I cant answer for Tenn. but here in AL you can use Hi cap mags if you want. In some places hog are considered "Nuisance" animals and with a permit can be hunted over bait at night with FMJ ammo. They just want them dead, dont care how you do it, as long as it aint poison. I would never hunt deer again if I could hunt hogs all the time.

why with FMJ ammo? Thats about the worst choice of ammo.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

why with FMJ ammo? Thats about the worst choice of ammo. I'd think he's just making the point that about all ammo is legal, even FMJ. Here in Kansas, it's illegal to hunt hogs. The F&G and state say that's the best way to eradicate them 'cause folks won't be releasing them for hunting purposes...IMO they just couldn't justify regulation, so they banned them all together. You're not gonna get to hunt anything unless you pay them for it.

I used to love pheasant hunting in Kansas and swore I'd move there if I had the chance but they have some really stupid game laws.

why with FMJ ammo? Thats about the worst choice of ammo. In AL. you MUST use a mushrooming type of ammo when hunting "Game Animals". when someone, usually a farmer, has proven that the feral hogs have caused him damage due to loss of crops the hogs can be deemed "Nuisance" animals and therefore are no longer considered "game animals" and game laws no longer apply. I personally have a large supply of 69 & 75gr HPs that I plan on loading up for my AR for a few hunting trips when it finally decides to cool off a bit.
