R.C. Soles (D-NC), a staunch opponent of the right to own a hand gun apparently used one to shoot an intruder. Does anyone of the forum have any more info?

That whole Soles story is quite deep and convoluted. Snopes failed to give much of the background story that is quite interesting and is reported to deal with such things as young men and expensive gifts of cars and houses. It is worth a read if you can find it.

Rowan got off because of a hung jury and the prosecution's unwillingness to retry the case; Rowan admitted he could be called a hypocrite. He died in 2000.
