OP Dante Campfire Greenhorn D Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 84	A friend has what I believe may be an 1895 model. The serial number is 34.4XX and it has a round barrel as well as a cartridge counter. The dark side is that it has been tapped for a scope!! Can anyone give me any history from the limited description I have provided?? David

If it's a 26" barrel then it's a model 1899A, originally came with a crescent buttplate. “The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered.
