I recently met a knifemaker,new to me,while selling knife handle materials,as I do.
Joe Sangster is a retired surgeon, resides in Georgia. He is a member of the Georgia knifemakers Guild.
I spied his knives in pics via his website & decided to order a knife, that IMO,offers my buyers here an alternative to the slipjoint folder,if a locking blade is wanted.
With very little I specified,Joe built a knife here I think you might want to see. I never try to put too much of my say in the knife build, because every custom knife maker has a style of thier own & if you demand things outside of thier style ,usually,in my experience, the knife does not come out as good as could be,if you left some details to be the maker styling,if,you can follow what I am saying.
For me,pocket clips always got caught on something & either got damaged, did damage,or got the knife lost.So I opted no clip. Bolsters on this type of folder can be used, they look great, but for no nonsense utility,I like one piece scales with no seam.,it's stronger this way Bolsters could be used, carbon fiber or SS.
Carbon fiber is light, strong, smooth to the touch dry & is grippy wet. It resists scratches & hides scratches well.Micarta can be used
Thye knife is 3-7/8" closed, good size for just about anything & not too big in the pocket. Opened up it's 6-5/8"
Blade is 2-3/4" from the tip to the handle scales, with 2.5" of cutting edge.
ATS-34 ss is the blade,3/32" stock was used. Thin titanium liners, the idea keeping the knife thin & light.
I know from pocketknives, thin & light is THE WTG for 4" size.
It is about 7/16" thick,if I had calipers to measure
When the blade is closed the tang is recessed below the liners & so does the tip, very compact carry
I opted out of a thumbstud, simply pinch the blade & open, trust me,you really don't need that stud,it only clogs up with your apple when you peel it,pocket lint,or deer fat,if you'd use a folder for a gut job
Lock up is bank vault, blade centers perfect, blade pivots smooth, has a great positive detent keeping it closed.
In my time messing with customs, this knife with impeccable fit & finish, great blade grind, sharp, and overall comfortable design,in hand & pocket The back curve of the handle is very much like a saddlehorn trapper & it provides a serious secure grip.
Joe say he can do a knife like this with a bit more upswept tip blade profile, and we'd call it a clip. This blade we're referring to as a drop point.
Honestly,I think it's so perfect just the way it is
Here is the knife.I have arranged to have these pre ordered through me,with a pretty timely delivery,on a very limited basis
Contact me for pricing, options & delivery time.I think one or two of you guys would really flip out over a folder like this I know I am
