I know absolutely nothing about them but I am putting in for a license for one.I will either put it on an AR I am building or a 223ai.It will probably get more use with the AI,but I'm not sure about messing up the balance on it.I also don't know what I can legally hunt with it.Any and all suggestions welcome.

For use on a precision/hunting rifle go with the Thunder Beast hands down. They focus on accuracy (Surefire focuses on carbines, for example) and are terrific performers. Lightweight Titanium, too.

suppressors have their place and certainly add something to the hunting experience. i have one on a cz and wouldn't be without it when hunting. as previously mentioned, you must use sub sonic ammo to get that "quiet" effect. everyday high speed ammo will give you that sonic "crack". it ain't like the killer sniper one sees in the movies with that little "pfffttt" upon firing. find a friend who has one and arrange to be standing off to the side when he fires a sub-sonic load as well as a standard load. you'll hear the difference immediately.

Thanks for the replies.Unfortunately I don't know anybody that has one. That's the reason for some of my dumb questions. If I were to shoot at a bunch of hogs at 3 to 400 yards would it be quiet enough not to spook the rest.As is I can only get one at a time. Also what is subsonic in FPS?
Thanks

I have a 22LR and a 223 suppresor and if I were to do it again I would go with the 22LR and a 30 caliber instead of a 223 suppresor. You can shoot 223 out of the 30 caliber can with a very minimal noise difference and then you can use it on all other calibers up to 30 caliber.

Here in NZ we do a lot of our shooting with supressors mand not a lot of it is with subsonic loads. I have been in hunting situations where supressed rifles allowed many more shot oportunities over times when non supressed rifles were used and all with loads that were in the normal for cartridge velocities. From 22LR through 20Vartarg, 223 and 270 and I have just bought a duralium and SS unit for a 6.5 I am building that will be run at the best velocity-accuracy loading I can get. The supersonic crack is there but the combustion bang is not so the animals are unsure where the shooter is stationed and it is not unknown for the remaining animals in the mob-heard- to move toward the shooter.I would not handicap my rifles with subsonic loads which severly effects ranging ability. Load with usual loads although there will often be a re-work of load levels because of the slight altering of harmonics due to the supressor.

About 1080 f/s at sea level.
