I don't own one; however, I've personally heard mixed reviews from people who do.

For the money, I would go with a Shimano Spheros. This real doesn't cost a lot, but has an outstanding reputation that rivals the top (high dollar) models from Shimano and other manufacturers.

I have 2 4000 and 1 6000 and couldn't be happier.

Good luck with whichever reel you end up choosing.

God bless and vote against Obama! grin

Was looking hard on the 3000, possibly a 4 for Redfish/Flounder/etc.

What line do you use on them and what size fish are you after?

The 2000 might be interesting for smaller stuff - likely would use it for freshwater, and I have been using Pfluegers for most of that recently.

Thanks for feedback.

I've used a Penn Sargus 6000 for a couple years. Its only purpose is tossing swimbaits at albacore. Its been a darn good reel.

IIRC the Battle is basically the same reel as the Sargus, but with one more bearing.

IMO,either would be hard to beat for the money.

I just bought one the other day and awaiting delivery. Should be here by the weekend.
It is the BT6000 and plan on putting it through its paces on the PINS surf fishing trip, I can report back after it. 24HCF PINS Surf fishing
From what I read and have been able to handle, they are tough as nails and somewhat heavy with a really good drag. In some forum I read someone complaining of lockup, but the complains were far few and in between. They are braid ready if you are planning on it, and have far more capacity than what their size would suggest. They should be perfect for flounder/reds

I just re read your post about the line smile
I will spool it with 30lb braid, PowerPro is what I have used before on other reels and it is good. Some say that SpiderWire UltraCast is thinner diameter with same lb test (which means more line capacity) but I have never used it.
For flounder and slot reds 12-15lb line should be more than enough, unless there is a lot of abrasion (oyster, rocky bottom, etc).
I have used Cajun Red Line and it is pretty tough for a mono. It does have a lot of stretch compared to braid, but it is thinner than average mono in my experience. You could do very well with it too.
