Chris, Ordered my wife one of the new Ruger compacts in 260 (Stick and I wanted the 7-08 but she wanted the 260 so guess which she got). It has a stainless barrel so will need a silver scope. The 3X9 compact or 2.5X8 VARI X III come to mind. The question is can they be mounted in low rings on this rifle. I guess a secondary question is should they be mounted in the rings Ruger supplies with the rifle? Do not even know if the Ruger rings are available in low. Weight is not a problem but I do like a scope mounted as low as possible but of course the bolt has to clear. Let me know what you think and the best price for the scopes.
Secondly, my birthday is coming up soon and everyone seems to like the new Leica 1200. A guy obviously can not hunt with the custom rifles the guys on the board have talked me into building and have an old range finder now can he? If you can throw in a good price on that, I am sure we can talk her into getting it at the same time as my present. We will just have to take it out of the kids inheritance!

As to payment, I can send a credit card or a check if that gets a better price. Keep in mind though that I am in Hong Kong so a check would take a couple of weeks to get there. I will not be back to the States for several more months so no problem on my end waiting. The scope and range finder will be shipped to my buddy in the US.
Thanks for the help. You can reach me with details at ray.garrenadtran.com.

And what's so bad about a .260? I own 4 of 'em. 6.5 is great bullet especially the 140 grain. Either scope you selected will mount with the Ruger supplied rings and that is the best route. 77's are notorious for having bolt clearance problems but all Leupold scopes have a slender ocular that will work perfect.
Happy coming bithday. Check your e-mail for a birthday present from me.
Credit card is fine with me, I'll make a little less but we won't have to rely on the mail to get your check here.
Talk to ya later,

Chris, Love the 260 and have just had a custom one built on a mountain rifle. That's why she wanted a 260, cause it would be like mine. I can not wait to get home and try it out. That's the bad part of being over here, new toys and you have to wait months to try them. I was just trying to use her new rifle (which I will use more than she will) as an excuse to get the 7-08 I have always wanted.
I will get by the office today and check the other e-mail for your message. Am sure you will get a return message with the credit card numbers. Thanks for the help. TM
