My dad just picked up a very nice Marlin 375 in 375 Win.
Appears to be close to new condition, with original sling still on it (I don't know much about these things, but the guy that had it made that sound like a big deal?), and next to no wear on the bolt.
Tell me about this thing...
How popular are they?

The 375 Winchester is basically modernized 38-55 Win. with supposedly thicker brass and chambered in a modern rifle at higher pressures ,than the 38-55.....
In the realm of power it is equal to the 356 win. less powerful than the 444 Marlin more powerful than the 35 Rem and the 30-30 ..The cartridge was factory chambered in the Winchester Model 94 Big Bore , the Marlin 375 (336) the Savage 99. I don't know of any other rifles chambered for this round .. besides Thompson Contenders
I owned a couple Marlins and a Winchester 94BB in this round and hand-loaded for the round for several years...when the market peaked I sold 'em ..as a hunting round i liked the 375 Win better than the 356 Win and the 444 Marlin ..The round seemed to get it done without much fuss..I had better luck with 250 gr. bullets...
Personally I like the Ole 30-30....but the 375 Win ..will certainly anchor the game..
The 356 Win ,375 Win. are to good cartridges ..but myself , I see no real world advantage over the 35 Rem when it handloaded to its full potential ....and alot of others must have seen the same being the 35 Rem is still humming along...
And the Marlin 375 still fetches a premium

The Ruger No.3 Carbine was also chambered in the .375 Win.

The Marlin 375 is a fine rifle. Mine shoots the excellent Hornady 220 grain bullet quite well. Consider it a handloading situation.

Ive used my Winny Big Bore. 94 many times. Ive used the power points and Sierra power jackets both with equal success. Plus its cool!!!

They weren't very popular, only cataloged for a few years.
I had 1 and liked it better than the straight grip Savage 99A and 99A-BG that I had at the same time. The 375 Win is an OK cartridge, but there is only 1 factory load option, the Winchester/Olin 200 grain PP, if you're not a reloader and not many component bullet options if you are. The only bullet that I liked was the 220 grain Hornady FP component bullet when I was looking for a good shooting load.

In terms of thumpability, I'd say the 375 is closer to the 35 Rem than the 356 Win.........
