I have a friend who has a Savage Model 1899A with a 22 inch barrel and a shotgun butt plate. How rare and is there any more value here than a 26 inch barreled model with crescent butt? Thanks, Dave

Known as a "short rifle". They are not rare but are less common than the full length rifle. Unfortunately, there has never been a count of the factory records to determine the actual number of any variation or caliber. Personally I would pay about 20% more for a short rifle than a full length one but that is my preference/opinion. BillR

What's it chambered in? Big difference between a 303 Savage and a 38-55 Short Rifle.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

Of course, chambered in 303 Savage. It is in lovely condition except being tapped for scope mounts. Interesting how the butt plate, butt and fore-end are numbered to the rifle as they should be. Thanks for the help. Dave
