Did any of y'all catch the post under Ask the Gunwriters from the gentleman who was asking about a rifle he'd acquired, a Big Timber C. Sharps in .50 3 1/4 (.50-140)? Talk about a thumper!

In my opinion, all he has there is an action and buttstock to re-barrel into a useful caliber. I've shot a 45-100 Shiloh in silhouette for years and if you need more than that in a rifle without wheels for transportation, you need a nap.

Paul, we're kinda jokin' around here, no offense meant.
Idahjo, was thinkin' it would make a dandy second for a switch barrel...know a really arrogant boob that gives me a ration for using guns too small for those "monster Georgia deer"...would love to set one of those things off outside his trailer someday while he's nappin'...

DD,
I took no offense. Shoulda put a smiley next to my post. I was actually referring to my response to the guy's original post under Ask the Gun Writers.

Evil, when I PM'd him regarding purchase I suggest he keep his jaw closed when shooting it, just in the event he had any loose fillings...great minds and all that.
Kelly, it causes me great distress to inform you that I do not have a trailer. My erstwhile victim uses one on the hunting lease, I use a(drumroll)...house. I realize this puts a dent in the credibility of my legend but it is something I'll have to contend with...we all have to make choices. First he gave me crap about using a .243, then it was a 7x57, followed by a 30-30 and a .358 Win. By now you probably figured that he shoots a 7 Rem Maggie, and is generally ignorant, arrogant, and a practicing miscreant. Heaviest charge of black I've ever set off was 100 grains of Goex FFG and it made a satisfying thump...figure 140 grains would get me a double thump. One from the trigger pull, the other when his head hit the bunk above him. Mebbe a third when he hit the floor? Well, that's my twisted sense of humor, for better or worse. I draw the line at putting rattlesnakes in sleeping bags though. Mebbe a Copperhead, but NEVER a rattler... wanna go campin'?

D.D.,
Ok, I won't park my trailer next to your hunting house With an imgination as great as yours I'm sure you can come up with something better then the sound/boom of 50-140 going off in this fellows ear. I do have the right remedy, care to hear, of course you do I have a 25 MM cannon, you can not blow up the barrel, it's an old militry barrel that has been reinforced. Load a pound of Goex and boom. You won't have to listen to 7 maggie guy in this life time. Pretty cool idea Early morning delight.

You are a nut from the same tree as me! My personal favorite, though not as loud I'm sure.... Piece of 6" PVC, 'bout 3' long...buried in the ground upright. 1# of black on the bottom, a fuse or some such to set it off. Put a 5# bag of flour on top of the powder...it'll look like a London fog fer about a week....
CAUTION! CAUTION! CAUTION! This is known to break widow within 75' radius. It is known to really irritate neighbors that were not included by invitation to the grand event. It MAY result in a very thorough inspection by BATF and other lessor LEO and agents. It IS spectacular!
Well, back to the subject: Was that det cord or U235?

Oooooooooooooooh Baby, I like that one. Ever make a bazooka out of cans? it shoots tennis balls. Lighter fuid is the propellent. Don't get hit in the chest with one.
What subject? Subjects always twist and turn from original intent, that's part of the bonanza of the chat rooms.

No Kelly never did the tin can bazooka thing. I got most of that out of my system in Nam...C4 is so much fun! Once in awhile I revert, not too often though.

The all steel mountain gun is a "Built up tube", and was Proofed with 1lb 3fg, and 2 hard cast 2 lb Round balls.
The thing recoiled really violently, way further than we figured it to. The trail hooked up on an oak root, and did a wild backflip, breaking only it's elevator leadscrew ( We shot the rest of that day with the breech wedged for elevation )
normal service / target load is 1/2 lb any grade BP, and 1 of the 2lb round balls.
Got a big long field gun, same barrel stock / bore 2 1/4", but never got arround to building the carraige yet.
These things are fun, but one hell of a lot of hard dirty work.
Anyone need one of these?
Work safe,GTC
