I Purchased a Tikka T-3 stainless laminate in 300wsm back in September. I can't get this gun to shoot. It is free floated and no matter what load I have tried it will print the first two shots almost touching then after that it starts to resemble a shotgun pattern. I have shot close to 200 shots with different powders, bullets and seating depths through this rifle and am on the verge of giving up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the action screws? It seems it could be a bedding problem. I had a Savage do that, had the action pillar bedded, and the barrel floated and it went away.

The way the gun sits now it is free floated. But I did notice that the barrel seems to not be centered in the stock. Maybe when it heats up a little it is hitting. I removed the action screws and tried to center the barrel but it still isn't centered. I shot the rifle this morning in 8degree weather so the barrel wasn't heating up that much. I thought about having it glass bedded as a last resort.

I have not had that problem with my t-3. I shot it all all summer at the range and it grouped tight at all times, even on hot days. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Okay I see we need to get this rifle bedded. Do you recommend glass bedding or pillar bedding. And who do you recommend.

Not to stop the bedding thing, but have you checked the scope out? And perhaps tried a different one?

Pillar bedding is moot, with a rigid stock and good bottom METAL.
Compression,is then a non-issue,as is deterioration via solvents/chemicals/weather..............

I'm thinking after the 2nd shot that maybe the barrel is too hot, try letting the barrel cool after the 2nd shot and see what happens. BTW, How far is that 3rd shot from the first 2? After the first two shots the barrel is still luke warm. This morning when I shot is was 8 degrees so the barrel was still cool. As far as the scope evreything is tight and I tried this scope on another rifle and it worked fine.

Talked to a gunsmith that I have had built a few rifles for me and he said he has seen a few Tikkas that wont shoot becuase of the locking lug that they have . He said it is easily fixable. While I was on the phone with him he offered me a deal that I couldn't pass up. He would rebarrel with a stainless fluted #4 Hart and bed for 450.00. To good to pass up.

before you start throwing $$ at the problem, take the action out of the stock one last time. when you re-seat it, be very sure the lug & all other parts are perfectly aligned. i had this problem when i noticed the barrel wasnt sitting perfectly centered. answer was i wasnt careful enough in alignment. the screws pulled the action down but at a very slight angle. if that doesnt do it, have it bedded./chaz

All that has been said is good advice. One thing that has been overlooked is the floated barrel. Especially with thin profile barrels, you will frequently get good results if the end of the stock is pressure pointed. Try it. If it doesn't do any good, it can be quickly removed.
