I only would say to you that for a non-original, it is way to high. Leave it on and maybe someone will bite. It is Super nice though rebluing and refinishing lowers the value to True Collectors. That being said, there is a new category being used for restored firearms.

Summer has been a bit slow, at least it seems to me. But, don't lose heart yet. It is an auction and you may have several guys real interested but they might not jump in until the end. Why jump in early?

Without pussie footin around. Who in their right mind would refinish an 1895 rifle? VERY few collectors will buy it and more than VERY few hunters would chose a 117 year old rifle to hunt with? Without further adieu, I think you can HONESTLY answer your own question.

Lots of refinished rifles sell. He is certainly asking less than one that is not refinished.

bought it from Mike , cant think of his handle, in NY a few yrs ago and paid I think $1650 for it then, maybe it was too much, but YES some people DO hunt with rifles 100+ yrs old, and NO I didnt re-finish it myself. I doubt whether there are too many in that condition for similar price finished or unfinished, brickman. Ho many do you own? Just asking? I always thought I would rather have one re-finished looking nice, than own none at all. But that was just my thoughts. All I really wanted to know is how far off I am from a price it might sell for? Thsnk you

I agree with you 150%. The gentleman posed a question and I answered it honestly. I agree having anything is better than having nothing. BUT we all want originality over refinished. I agree. Let the auction run. The buying public will say what it's worth or if the price is too high. It's not my goal to offend anyone. Your goal may vary.

I've owned a fair number of Savages over the past 37 or 38 years. During that time I have owned one and one-half M1895's. The first was a clean plain specimen that was nice but it had a cut barrel. Even with that, I'd buy it back if I could. The other one is the SRC with a M1895 buttstock. Very high original condition but somewhat of an enigma. That fact that I've owned so few says something about how frequently they are encountered.
