Use this. I have two of them and bought the drummer chair with them. Totally satisfied with this bench. http://www.shootingbenches.com/reviews.htm

You could always make your own. I made mine just for myself so only right handed simple by leaving the right hand side bay off and consequently 6 inches narrower which is a more managable width for portability Von Gruff.

reccomending what type shooting bench is akin to reccomending what type gun or fishing rod is best. all those reccomended or pictured no doubt work well for those using them for their particular purpose. your particular type use will determine whats best for you. for simply range work any solid platform will work. if you intend using it for hunting lots of other things must be considered. first off size and weight could be an issue if you intend carrying it very far. then the type terrain might require extensive leg adjustments. especially if your going to be using it in different type terrain. in all cases the bench needs to be solid which was your reason in the first place. weight dosent necessarily correlate with being solid. solid is determined by design and assembly. a 1 1/2" thick top for example could be less solid than a 1/2" thick top depending on whats under it by framework. there are usually several methods for aquiring a good bench. first would be to find somebody using one for your intended purpose that has been tweeked to perfection. then copy it. the other is to just build or buy one and let the ideas begin. my first bench for hunting was a wooden carpenters saw horse with a piece of plywood screwed on top. it worked well if the ground was even. otherwise we were shimming the legs.

vangruff id reccomed your using your bench before proceeding with any top cutting. you will find its more solid with the single leg in front. just round off the corners and it will be fine.

I think you will find you were looking at another posters bench. I made mine as noted but only posted the plans for others to get the measurments etc. This is mine Von Gruff.

I've heard several people speak highly of this. I've got the legs but haven't built mine yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMIWFXJ-8R8
