What do you guys like for a pocket pistol? I am looking at the sig p232 and the new bersa concealed carry. Both in 380. tom

My favorite is a Colt Pony Pocketlite .380. No longer made, but you can find them if you look. In general I prefer single action autos, but the DAO Pony just seems more comfortable when carried in a pocket.

Mine flat disappears into my backpocket (jeans, khakis, suit, etc.). The clip makes it look like a pocket knife, the profile is almost as thin as my wallet (and that's thin), and for what it is and what it's supposed to do, there aren't any lighter, or smaller, it's surprisingly accurate, and my has functioned quite well.

BTW - as for .380 loads, don't even bother with PMC Starfires (they don't expand), or Federal hydra-shoks (very limited expansion). Go with Rem. Golden Sabres (feed really well), Triton +Ps, or Speer GoldDots.

Just curious, but why the choices you listed for a CCW pistol?

I have a sig p220 so I am impressed with the sig's. bersa seems to be a great value for the money.
I had a kel-tec 3800 and I liked to carry it but hated to shoot it. I have big hands and the trigger guard ate my finger every time I shot it at the range. I guess I could have put some tape at the front of the trigger guard to prevent that. tom

Personally I like the S&W 642. It's a 5 shot revolver, hamerless and just slides into the pocket real nice. It don't get hung up on the say out and you can use plus P's in it. Like American Express, don't leave home without it.

I have a little rossi 38 snubie that I could have the hammer bobbed on and I have been considering taht as well. tom

I have a Sig 232 and enjoy it but would not consider it a "pocket pistol" but it does ride well in an under-the-belt-holster. It fits my large hands well enough, somethig the Kel-Tec's did not. If I were to do it again, I might look for a pistol in simular size to the 232 only in full 9mm.

For deep concealment I carry a Colt 1908 25 ACP. Thats my I'm going to piss him off gun. Otherwise its a Colt 1908 .380 or a Smith Chiefs Special. I am not fond of anything under .380 but the 25 is for those times when carrying anywheres else isn't appropriate. I am especially fond of the Chiefs special. More oomph with very little bulk. I carry pretty much all the time when off duty and if its a normal day its a Glock 22. But for Pocket pistols the above do a very nice job. Besides in my line of work, testing out new ones make for good tax right offs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Pumpgun, hammer less snubs are really nice. I get leary of bobbing the hammer as sometimes the spring needs to be exchanged. Beware of light primer strikes. Be sure it is tested over a couple of hundred rounds of what you intend to carry if you just bob the hammer. I hate surprises when I expect something to go bang and it goes click. I carry one of these.....it's a .32, but they make them in .380 as well (identical in size). They don't get a whole lot smaller.

Pumpgun: The same two pistols you mentioned- were the same two I thought of when I read "pocket pistol".

The only reason I do not have a Sig 232, is- that I already have a Bersa Model 86. Mfg. 1991-94, wraparound rubber grips, & undercover model. This pistol always functions, has good accuracy, and I think it's GREAT. (Also the price!)

I can hide the stupid thing as a third handgun easily.

It also has been 100% reliable for me after 4 years and close to 1,000 rounds.

The lanyard cutout comes in handy for the wife.

With the pistol attached to a break away duck call lanyard and tucked inside(Uncle mikes pocket holster for padding) a sportsbra, she is free to jog, Bike, ski, or go about daily business on the farm or at the mall.

It ain't pretty, but it works.

Well I found out that the guy I sold my kel-tec to has never fired it still has the ammo I sold with it and has only had it in his truck. And he will sell it back to me for what I sold it for so I guess my pocket pistol hunt in over lol. tom

What ammo have you tried?

I use a 45 AMT backup but find it heavy, though easy to conceal, and a Taurus 85UL which is always with me. It is handy, handles snake shot and I grew up with S&W revolvers so it is familiar in my hands.

I vote for (and use myself) a S&W 642. If you are a fan of big
bores, prefer semi-autos and have more $$ to spend, I see that
Kahr Arms now has a very small, pocket sized 45 ACP coming out
that should be very easy to pocket carry and much smaller than
the P232. I like the P232 myself too, but no longer own one.

yes it is a 380. I do not remember what ammo I had.
I will let you know after I get it back. I still have the pocket holster since the guy didn't want it. It is some sort of hard plastic formed to fit pistol. Have you had any sucess in finding spare mags at a reasonable price?

I haven't tried to find replacement mags yet, but the local shop can hook me up PDQ. Of course, you can order then straight from Kel-Tec, as well. Oh, and if you order from them, get the belt clip. It works.

Try the Rem. Golden Sabres, Tritons (if you can find them), and esp. the Speer GoldDots, if you haven't already. Any of those three would be my choice, and though I'd prefer the GDs over the Tritons over the GSs, I'd be content with any of the three I could find and that worked well in my KT.

My favorite is my new Rohrbaugh R9S. It's a 9mm with S.S. slide and aluminum frame. Weighs 12 oz. with empty 6 round mag.
Kinda pricey @ about $1,000, but it's a work of art.
There've been some teething problems - you see a lot of that on the unofficial website - my mine has been troublefree after 380 rounds - other than one finicky mag. Very accurate, too.
I carry Speer GDHP in 115 or 124 gr. exclusively.
It is really a backup gun, but I can carry it all the time. My favorite carry gun is my Sig P239 in .40 S&W, but there are times when it's not convenient.

BTW: I also have a NAA Guardian .380. Very reliable, very small but heavy for a pocket pistol. The R9 is 25% lighter and packs a more effective payload.

My usual pocket pistol is a Ruger SP101. If I really need to go with something smaller, I have a Performance Center version of the S&W 642 and a Colt Mustang. A new Seecamp .32 is still being broken-in to determine its reliability. Two of my SP101 snubbies have bobbed hammers, and were customized by Jack Weigand when he still did custom 'smithing. The third SP101 is box-stock with a hammer spur, for times I want to carry in a horizontal shoulder rig, or do some single-action longer-range plinking. The Ruger snubbies do require a large pocket; I am glad my currently issued uniform pants have deep, reinforced hip pockets, and when shopping for pants I look for deep pockets. If I ever have a suit tailored to fit, it will have some very specially tailored pockets.
