I bought this a few months ago, and it is already bubba'd, but not in terrible way. It has been drilled and tapped with a scope on it, has a timney trigger (i think), and the stock has been studs for a new sling. Every thing is in good shape, and the barrel is in the original military configuration. I don't like the military stock. I would like to restock this rifle, but does that mean I need to reduce the barrel length? I like the barrel length. It's not pretty, but I think I get a little more out of the cartridge using a 29 inch barrel

No you don't have to shorten the barrel. there are several stocks available that are pretty much drop in fit.

I've restocked a few SR Swedish Mausers.

Wood, walnut or laminated, check out Boyds.

Synthetic, no great options that I'm aware of, Ramlines are just OK.

A 29" barrel is rather cumbersome unless you're planning to do a lot of bayonet fighting, so I'd cut it back to a length that provides a neutral balance with the stock you decide on.

I have a Boyds small ring mauser stock to sell. It is the ruff shapped stock... like what..... 90 % shapped out side and inletted on the inside. I think I paid $50 + $15 shipping for it but now I don't have a use for it. I would take $50 shipped to help us both out. If you are interest, PM me and I will dig it out and send you some pics of it.

Both Boyd's and Richards make stocks with available Inletting for factory barrel channels

I agree with the barrel as well. Get your new stock on it and try 26". If its still too tippy. Reduce it until you get what you want. I keep 22-24" barrels on my Mausers.
