I recall reading a 4wd magazine in which the explained the toyota in-line 6 weighed a lot more than modern V8's. I assume that was the case with your Olds big block?

Also that the Toy motor was actual a GM design the Japanese bought.

Anyhow, I see ya got power brakes, but still a single master cylinder set up. Now that you've got more speed, I thinking some 'help' will come in the form of a braking system upgrade. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I had a 'crusher' once. Good vehicles, heavy as all get out!

BW-I dont know if this big Olds is lighter than the six, Alot of people put Chevy small blocks in them and they are definately lighter.

I've got an 88 fj62 (station wagon style) that will be getting a v8 when the i6 dies (if it ever does die). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Did you do the work your self? How difficult was it? Did you use a conversion kit? Any "If I had it to do over again" type of advice?

SH- Afriend of mine helped me with the project, he teaches diesel mechanics and welding classes for the operating engineers. We made our own mounts, and was really a simple swap. Hardest part was finding the right bellhousing to bolt up the sm420 tranny. They are not the same as the Chevy bell housing. All the conversion parts to put in a chevy are readily available through many 4wd outlets. If interested, I can lead you in the right direction.

This was my FJ40 powered by a stroked small block running on 37" Formula Desert Dog Tires.

This was my FJ55 wagon with a somewhat stock 258 & Goodyear XT Terra Tires.
They are tough rigs!

Nice rigs, Ken. The L.Cs seem to be pretty tuff. This is my second to own, the first was almost stock with the six cyl. Served me well as long as I brought extra spark plugs along, you probably know what I am talking about!

Nothing like a swap to cure the sick engine blues! That 455 should push 'er through just about anything that's thrown at you.

I'm helping a buddy put a turbo'd GM 6.2 diesel and 5 spd manual in his FJ62. What a difference that's going to make. If all goes well he'll be driving it by this spring.

I wonder if there is anyone out there that can do (diesel) conversions on a Range Rover. Id love to put a diesel in mine.
