Alvaro,
I believe Melvin is set up to export rifles, or used to be. I know he's sold quite a few NULA's in Europe.

One of the things I like about NULAs, which should also be true about the Forbes rifles, is that unlike some other lightweight rifles, they're not sensitive to various ways of holding them in the field. I've shot them with a sling, off backpacks and shooting sticks, and from improvised rests such as sagebrush, and never had a problem. They even shoot off benchrests with the front rest in the middle of the forend!
I keep reading about the weird benchrest positions some owners other lightweight rifles use to get their rifles to shoot accurately at only 100 yards, and am always astonished. JB, I would submit that those "weird benchrest positions" are what us neophytes work through in learning to shoot ultralight rifles. It's a solution for the shooter, not for a particular brand of rifle. Give me a NULA, and I'm betting that it's still less forgiving of poor technique than a Sendero.

JB,
Id like to get one of these rifles when they come out in stainless, but I have one concern.
I shoot with a sling and the forearm of the stock is subjected to a moderate amount of downward pressure. I've seen this create some major POI shifts with other rifles, mostly those that weren't free floated or had a flimsy stock.
I know Melvin's stock is 1st rate, but I'm concerned about the bbl bedding extending to the end of the forearm and what impact this may have on POI when downward pressure is applied to the forearm when using a sling.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks

Thought I ought to let you know.
Got email reply from Forbes Rifle LLC contact link, and said the same thing on my question as BuildsGuns did here on the 'fire about the bedding of the 24b.
Sent from here around 10 a.m., and reply on my 'puter at 11:49 a.m.
edit: BuildsRifles too BuildsGuns

I know John, since I seem to remember that your first ULA was a 30.06 (das Springfield) sent to some guns store in Europe and then sent back to the US, am I right? Do you think Melvin will export a Forbes rifle for me, or he would only do for one of the NULA$$ ...?

Thank you, BuildGuns. I have already imported directly some rifles from the US and I am familiar with the paperwork I need to do here, I just need someone who will do the same there, and I am ready to order a 25-06. Alvaro

In my locale, I'm always using a tree for support. My sling is for carrying.

I believe the question on use with a sling was answered earlier in the thread by JB and the answer was they work well for shooting with a sling.

If the barrel is floated and it has good bedding shooting from a sling is not a problem.

Sometimes I can't walk to a tree. Do you own the sling company in your sig. line? Send me one of your slings (used) and I'll do some shooting with it attached to my NULA 7mm-08 and let you know my results. I'll return the sling when finished, on my dime. Or, I could send you my NULA? <grin>

This rifle has bedding that extends to the end of the forearm......
Could make a big difference for obvious reasons.

Thanks. Shoot slinged-up infrequently, but since you asked, sitting with a sling with a Nula 7mm-08 and 140gr partitions. Dry fired about 10 to get the feel of it and then shot four at 100yards. Not quick and I worked on each shot. Not sure what your standards are, but I don't think any Deer should go to far. Two things: That stock is so stiff you can hardly move it away from the barrel and Melvin has mentioned that his rifle is made to be shot in the hand. How this all applies to the Forbes rifle remains to be seen. For what it's worth and I figured I best quit at four. Addition: From the bench it was printing right at 2inches high and Nula and the Forbes rifle are NOT floated. Tight contact all the way to the end.

The NULA probably has the stiffest synthetic stock made, especially through the forearm--and the Forbes rifle features exactly the same stock and bedding.

JB:
Melvin has stressed to me more than once to keep the barrel clean. Well, I did for awhile and then got lazy and let it slide with no appreciable change. Then last week bench groups started to grow, but gongs kept resounding with a thunk from field positions. Last night I gave it a good cleaning-not completely clean, just pretty clean-and today after a couple rounds groups started shrinking again.
Again FWIW re: Nulas or at least this particular Nula.

I know that no decision will please everybody, but a stainless barrel seems like a given to me. Of course I live in southeast Alabama where the humidity will rust a barrel in no time and more hunts than not involve rain. When the stainless barrel is available, I'm all in. And while I'm at it, build a short action in 308.
