Hey all, shot my first muley with a bow over the weekend. One of my friend has some private land with some huge bucks and I managed to arrow a good one. Compared to some of the other bucks I saw it didn't seem huge so I didn't skin it for a shoulder mount but now comparing photos I think it's quite a bit bigger than I thought. I'm considering trying to find a replacement cape and seeing what a taxidermist can do. What say you all? I very roughly green scored it at 165. Alternatively, I'm euro mount it trying to keep the velvet intact if at all possible. http://i624.photobucket.com/albums/tt326/shooterschmidty/100_1817.jpg

The minimum for Pope & Young is 170", what a way to start archery deer hunting!
Congrats!

No flies on that one! If you would like to mount it, your taxidermist can usually come up with a cape at a reasonable price--I assume that you still have the antlers.

That's a keeper for sure.
If you can't find a cape, then maybe a Euro mount or maybe mount the antlers on a nice wooden plaque along qith a photo.
Congrats!

Very nice. That would make a cool mount with the velvet.

Always keep the cape. Though there are no flies on a euro-velvet. That's a really nice deer, congrats!

Nice work shooter! You should be darn proud of that one.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Start looking for a cape. I shot a nice Muley a few years ago and didn't mount it for the same reason, it just didn't seem that big. But it was big, and I'm still waiting to shoot another for a cape.
your flippant remarks which you so adeptly sling

Get a cape and get it mounted. This time next year you won't feel the pinch of the cost. It takes 145 to make Pope and Young, that looks easily 150+.
You should have left the bow out of the picture, it is hard to look at the deer when you have a Mathews bow in the picture.
You also might want to get a cap and some aviators...

I'm with everybody else on this one, get it done. You may shoot bigger, but maybe not still in velvet. He's a keeper!

I've grown partial to good european mounts ("good" being the key word). They look nice, are much more easy to display, and don't wear with years. I wish all of my trophies were Euros.
