Hi, I bought some way cheap (for Weatherby) 130g spitzer ammo for my 270 Weatherby at $34 box, primarily for the cases, and I always like to start out with factory ammo when shooting a new (to me) rifle. Turns out they shoot sub .75 MOA at over 3300 fps. Elk and black bear season is upon me, and I'd like to take it hunting (it's sighted in 3" high at 100), but have no idea what bullets it's loaded with. They're not Partitions. Anyone have an idea?
Regards,
Chuck

They say spire point, so is that Hornady? If so, are they any good? I've been shooting 150g Partitions through my 270 Win for too many years to count, but gave it to my youngest. Don't have time to reload before the season. I may just have to use my 500 Jeffery lol ..

Chuck

Only factory's I ever bought for mine were Hornady. Back in the mid to late 1980s I used the 130 factory loads on deer and they would not stay together but I think that was pre-Interlock. After that I started loading and went to the 150gr Interlock which is a very tough bullet.

3300fps is asking alot from a 130gr cup and core. I'm a big fan of the horn interlocks but I don't use them faster than 3000fps and I use "heavy" rather than light for caliber.

I'll just pick my shots as always, if I'm going to hunt the black timber, I'll bring the 500 Jeff with 570g TSX's at 2300 fps. I'll be working up a 3200 plus fps load with the 150g Partitions over the winter. Thanks guys

130 Hornady spire points ,when you start loading a near max dose of 7828 ,Fed 215's and 150 gr Hornady Spire pts in Weatherby brass will give great groups and performance on deer. Magnum Man

Gunner I stand corrected, looks like Norma may have taken the reins from Hornady, hope it's a tougher bullet for the WBY. speedsters. Gunner

They have both loads. The "spitzer" loads are less money in various calibers...

I bought the spitzers essentially for the cases they were so cheap ($34 a box). I plan to load either 150g or 160g Partitions for hunting next year. I have to say, though, they shot sub 3/4" groups at 100 yards out of the box in my 270 Weatherby.

My guess, from pass experience with shooting both the 300 and 7mm Weatherby's Hornaday's ruled the roost in the loaded ammo. This may have changed, if so Norma knows how to make good bullets, I would not think about shooting an Elk with that load, have a sharp knife, you are going to need it.
