Thinking about doing a build on one of these 2 titanium actions in 7mm Weatherby. Which of the 2 would you choose and why?

The Pierce seems a bit more established to me. I'd skip the Weatherby totally.

dave As a long time 7mm Weatherby user, I totally agree. The 7mm Rem mag is a better round as is the 7mm Mashburn.

I have a buddy that has the xtreme in a short action which is REALLY nice, to say the least I'd love to have either one would probably go with the Pierce just to have a different one...............7WBY for OlePapi here!!!!!

Differant strokes for different folks, but I detest the free bore on this round given the mag box dimensions. Plus your limited to weatherby brass and in reality it doesn't really offer anything over a 7mm rem mag.

YesSir Ur right "Differant strokes for different folks" mine would be built without the freebore though......as per brass Weatherby and Norma has brass offerings from my understanding!!!!

If your building it without free bore your making a 7 rem mag with a fancy shaped neck. Shooting weatherby factory ammo will be out too as even with freebore the stuff is hot to the point i get ejector marks when fired through my gun. Norma/weatherby brass is pretty soft, which I am sure is part of it too.

The 7 WBY I have here now is without free bore and is quite a bit faster than my previous 7 REM MAG, at least with the 180VLDs ;-) !

I would say there is a fair chance you are operating the bee at higher pressures then. The bee and remington case are very close and if you take the freebore away from the bee, I would bet there isnt 50fps differance.

The reason I say the 7mm weatherby is because my dad has one that shoots great, getting tired of borrowing it. As a matter of fact his has no free bore as well and is a lot faster than my brothers 7mm rem mag using a number of different bullets loaded..........being I'm a speed freak I feel the Weatherby is where I'd like to be, can always rechamber if I don't like it.

If your a speed freak get a 7mm Ultra. After speaking with my smith I'll be satisfied with the 7mm Weatherby with no free bore like my dads!!!

That's about exactly what Bob Hagel found. The case capacities are similar. Those Pierce actions look nice. I'd build a Mashburn H&H length before messing with the Weatherby but that's just me.

The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

There are others to choose from. I would contemplate the following 7mm Blaser mag (beltless) 7mm Boo boo (beltless and based on 8x68S case) or 7mm Mashburn magnum (cases formed from 300 Win mag brass).
In my experience 7mm wby offers about 100 fps over 7mm rem mag when shooting heavier bullets (160-180 grain) - Wby also got a longer neck for seating out heavy bullets which is also a plus. Factory ammo in 7mm rem mag is often soft while 7mm wby is not.
My next 7 will be either a 7mm Blaser mag or a 7mm Mashburn
Cheers J
