My father and I used 15 years worth of preference points to draw 61 for the second rifle season. We generally hunt down in GMU 75 archery and pack in 2 to 4 miles and have had pretty good success.

We don't however know much about GMU 61 or what the rifle season is like. Would really appreciate any and all advice. My father is out there now scouting a little but he has my mom with him so he's a little limited by that.

Does anyone have any experience with 61 during the 2nd rifle? Sure would appreciate any opinions, advice or even stories.

I will be up there hunting the same season. I am going to start snooping around up there after work around the end of September and beginning of October. Got my wifes rifle as well as mine straightened out ready for the shot. Last month or so we got a lot of rain and is pretty wet up there. Any ideas of what area in 61 you are looking to hunt in??

We are thinking about hunting the middle to lower section of 61. Maybe in the hanks Valley road area and/or not far from Norwood. We also have a lead on a couple places that are in the southern section of the unit.

I believe there are 270 bull tags and about 300 cow tags for the 2nd gun season. It's such a big unit that we don't *think* that the pressure will be too heavy but we have no experience with this unit. Anybody out there that's hunted 2nd gun in 61 that can advise?

I've hunted it for deer second season. It wasn't real busy but there were deer, elk, and bear hunters about. Nothing like across the road in 62 or other zoo units.

Went out 2 nights ago and called in 6 bulls and 3 cows in about 2 hours. They are awake and doing well in unit 61, I have 3 tags in the group this year so I am trying to find something that I want to shoot opening day so I can help with the other tags. I am going up after work looking for the king, so far I have not located him.
