One of our clubs long range hunters was at the range the other day shooting a 7mm STW. It was a 700 so chambered by Rem with a fluted barrel. What I noticed was the Schmidt & Bender 50mm variable on it. When I asked him if he considered the 7mm mashburn he said he never heard of it~ http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.aspHodgdon has loads there for a half dozen 7mm magnums but no mashburn. Guess they never heard if it?

Gentlemen, I'm seeking 7mm Mashburn Magnum datafile for Quickload, if any of you have created a file. /J From "Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions" by Donnelly: It sez that there is 7MM Mashburn info to be found in Volume 1 of Ackley's book, page 406. Further states: Cases can be made from .300 H&H Mag. Case length is 2.625 inch. Water capacity of full full case is 83.4 grains. FjLee Denver CO

Start with 7mmRemMag loads and work your way up. Advice as old as the hills and still true today. I'd go with RL25, 4831 or H1000 Here's a picture of the Mashburn: http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd7mashburnmagnum.jpgNote the case OAL is 2.635", the 7mm 7rmRemMag 2.5" , 275 H&H 2.5" and the 7mm STW 2.850" (same as 300 H&H) I am not sure the Mashburn would require a Magnum action. There is really no reason to build one unless you want to. Starting with the 7x57 and going to the 7mmSTW, you can do about anything you want with "off the shelf" 7mm cartridges.

Originally, true and equally true today. But 300 Win Mag brass is easier and works fine.Lots of powders work well. Retumbo and RL25,H1000 also work.

Dug out my ancient (1959) Speer Manual for wildcat cartridges. Remember, Speer was never noted for being conservative back then. Their highlighted loads: (all Speer bullets of that era)
73 gr 4831 130 gr 3400 fps 70 gr 4831 145 gr 3247 fps 69 gr 4831 160 gr 3100 fps
Looks like nothing special to me. Unless you own it, IMO, don't bother.

I don't know about the 130's, but the velocities for the 140's and 160's are about 100 fps slow;and with some powders 150 fps. That from a 24" barrel.
You can expect 3350 with 140's,and you will top out at 3200- 3250 with a 160;close to 3100 with a 175 gr.That's real life from several barrels.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Bullet, powder and primer technology has changed a lot since 1959.
The old heavy cup and core bullets are no longer needed with today's superior monometal bullets. A 140 TSX (or its clones) will kill anything you would use a 7mm for from a plain old 700 BDL 7mm RemMag.
If I already owned the Mashburn, especially if it had "history", I would load for it, but building one is just an exercise in "I want one" (which is fine).
Bottom line the wildcat has no advantage over its current easily obtained commercial alternatives.
Having yet to see the rifle, the OP's search for load data is a mystery.

Having yet to see the rifle, the OP's search for load data is a mystery. Yes,I know of the mono's,having used Bitterroots for 30+ years which do the same things, pretty much. The 140 mono's are good....The Mashburn will shoot those, too. Some on here who have the cartridge, use the 150 TTSX at 3250+ or so. After 12-15 7 RM's and using them back to the 70's(still have one),a couple of STW's,a 7mm Dakota, and a couple of WSM's,I have found the Mashburn easy to work with, simple to get the velocity and less quirky than the 7RM when it comes to getting the velocity more easily. It's an accurate cartridge, too, with a longer neck, more capacity.Just a bit more user friendly IME. Some people like the heavy Bergers and such;the cartridge handles them nicely as well. You are correct it being a want thing;about like a 280AI,useful, but hard to justify in light of other factory offerings. It does what it does. The wildcat is not for everyone. But if you want something a bit different that works well, it's a fun cartridge to load and shoot. I think the OP is searching for some hard data on loads, contemplating a rifle.Don't think he has one yet....I get a lot of PM's and emails looking for data to get started. He really doesn't need software....just use starting loads for the 7mm Weatherby and work up.The velocity will show up rather easily. Edited to Add: You are correct about the changes in technology, which has affected propellants as well as bullets. Back when that Speer data was compiled, I will bet the bulk of it was based on 4350 and the old WW II surplus H4831.Both good but that's pretty much all they had back then,in a day and age when there was no 7 Rem Mag. Today,we have (as you have pointed out) things like H1000, RL25,Retumbo,and other better slow burners that all serve to up the velocity potential of the cartridge....in any event, with these, it provides a measurable improvement over the smaller 7mm's without getting into the mega capacities of the larger cases.I figured it deserves a second look.

That contributed a lot to the discussion, thanks !
Sad that the vast majority of adults on the site have to be burdened with the rants of immature nobodies who never even heard of Warren Page or the Mashburn until this thread was started.
As a point of fact, you have no idea who is making posts on this thread, anymore than you are willing to stay on the thread topic.
Be a good boy and get back to whatever you do when not being an annoying fool.

Not in total agreement with berger, but 7mm mashy load development started with 7mm wea or 7mm rem info would be a very good start.
Like bob says, 300 win mag brass is a natural for case forming for the mashy.
It is still cool to own, lust and want a hot 7mm mag. Back in the day of Page, Hagel 7 mag fever was the popular craze. A craze that was prolly one of the biggest cartridge crazes ever.
Fast 7's still have a certain "penache". There is just a few more to choose from these days in factory form.... some even exceed the mashy.

If you have the rifle, use it (as I do my 7x61s). If you don't and just want to be "different", build one. If you want a practical hunting rifle that will kill anything you would use a 7mm for AND can find ammo anywhere when the airline etc loses yours, get a 7mm RemMag. Having the Mashburn is like having a 22 WRF .... cool, but you can't get ammo at Wal-Mart as you can with the 22 Magnum RF.
